In tribute to my best friend. I'm going through a divorce, and, Thank GOD, there are no kids. Custody of my dog is at stake, but I would not want to be the judge that told my shep he couldn't see me any more. Is there a nobler breed?

,,, take care of yourself and your dog Joe. Take a few minutes out to thank God that you don't have to go thru the Family Court for battles over access to kids etc. In time things will be better for you.

I HAVE to ask this - and it's truly out of curiosity, not bad manners. When did the breeding of *slope backed* German Shepherd Dogs begin (that's not a tech term, just an observation)? I recall Shepherds from 25-30 years ago with very level top lines. Now I'm seeing much more slope - looks like potential hip problems in the offing. Truly just curious; don't know that much about the breed other than they are smart & loyal.

Well good luck to you.....my boyfriend's shepherd "Sam" almost died years ago from getting his head stuck in a garage door and was found half dead......"Sam" was at the Vet for 2 weeks dying of kidney failure and wouldn't eat....they weren't doing anything for the dog so Bob paid the $1400.00 bill, took him home and nursed him back to health while he prayed and cried for weeks....and now 3 years later he's one happy and "greatful" dog:^) P.S. His house and Sam were his winnings from his divorce:^)

Make mine a Sheltie (Shetland Sheepdog).

Smart? Our Sheltie knows 20 commands and ignores them all.

Affectionate? She loves to lick us awake when she wants her morning walk. That can be at 5:30 AM.

Loyal? She jumped into our friend's van to be with the children. I called her out. She laid her ears down (meaning "I won't listen") and went to the back of the van. I had to carry her back to the yard, while everyone laughed at us.

We love our Sheltie. I know that many German Shepherd owners love their dogs. Sheltie owners seem to go ga-ga over other Shelties. I usually find one new admirer for our dog every day when we go for walks together.

Good luck with your custody case. I'd be lost without my Akitas.

Alsatians (German Shepherds) are very effective.

Pound for pound you get maximum bite for buck.

I'll give you the nobility of the German Shepherd breed but, you've got to admit that these dogs

are absolutely the funniest. I am owned by two bassets and would never forfeit them in a divorce! Give her what she wants, you end up the winner!!!

Well, German Shepherds are nice. A very fine and noble breed. But, Boxers are truly the most noble breed of all!

NO THERE ISN'T!!!!! We've had setters, spaniels, and now finally the dog of my dreams....my German Shepherd. I will NEVER have another breed but this. But, that's in my ever so humble opinion. Hope you get to keep the dog....!!!!

lOVELY BABIES!

My daughter brought home a long-haired shep from France, where his sire was the national grand champion. Pasha lived for 16 years and was as noble as they come.

I have a puppy that is sort of a shepherd. Someone dropped him off on us. He is at least half shepherd and whatever else I don't know. He probably has some of that awful Chow in him as his tongue is partly blue.

For some reason the Chow bad temperament and stupidity is not showing up. He is showing signs of being a very good dog. It only took one time to teach him to shake, and about three tries to get him to sit.

He has a couple of bad features. He chews up everything in sight and is almost too smart for his own good. he can get things out of the barn that I swear there is no way he can get to them, but somehow he does.

Abslutely amazed a few days ago when he caught a squirrel. He had injured the poor animal so that it couldn't get away and was playing with it like a cat with a mouse. I would rather he leave the ones around the house alone but what can you do?

Can't wait till our Daughter visits. She loves all dogs.

Go for it. Shepherds are the best. Mine was black and she was friendly, intellegent, stubborn and protector to the end. What a great dog. Will always have a Shepherd. Don't ever give in and good luck.

I would post a pic but most of the pics posted here look like mine. Mine is a 130 lb. loveable, loyal goofy fuzzball.
All of his littermates have gone to the TX border patrol and various TX police departments around the state.
I got him from a friend/breeder of champion Shepherds for nothing.
(He owed me...)
He sold the rest of them for $350.00 apiece. I got to meet one at the border and she was a cutey.

My dog, a good Republican, and a natural born police dog, with her favorite chew toy, the escaped felon, Bill Clinton.
Get him Fritz! Good dog!
