Thanks for the info on the slope-back look. My Max has a level back and his ancestors were from Germany only two generations ago. He is strong in his back legs and can stand on them unsupported, and can leap quite high while chasing a frisbee. No hip problems with him.

I'll give you the nobility of the German Shepherd breed but, you've got to admit that these dogs

are absolutely the funniest. I am owned by two bassets and would never forfeit them in a divorce! Give her what she wants, you end up the winner!!!

Shay had no hip problems either. He died this year from cancer of the spleen. My sister sent me this thread because she knows of our love for Shay (and Shepherds) and she lost her wonderful Charlie this year too.

Did you intentionally get a German bloodline shepherd?

He's trained for protection rather than Schitzhund, and he has a real ability to go under the sleeve and right for the crotch. I'd post a picture, but I don't have a clue about how to.

Well, German Shepherds are nice. A very fine and noble breed. But, Boxers are truly the most noble breed of all!

NO THERE ISN'T!!!!! We've had setters, spaniels, and now finally the dog of my dreams....my German Shepherd. I will NEVER have another breed but this. But, that's in my ever so humble opinion. Hope you get to keep the dog....!!!!

Protection is, I think, a large part of Schutzhund training. Great name for a GS (I'm a fan too).

I wish I could take credit for it! I have two beautiful boxers, named Django and Buddy, but these are not them.

Thanks... he's really a klingon, you know.

There are a lot of similarities in the training, but protection requires that the dog be able to recognize a dangerous situation and decide for himself what action to take.

What would you say are the major reasons for your conclusion?

I only became aware of the bloodline when we were looking at the puppies. The family we got Max from had both parents and it was the first litter. Max has stayed fairly slender also, at 90 pounds at age four. He is self regulating on eating, often leaving food in his bowl. We used to just leave food out in abundance for whenever he wanted it, but now that my mother-in-law and her Weimareiner live with us we can't do that since her dog eats everything in sight.

Shelties are happy dogs and natural clowns. Our Precious does not howl and sing, but she gets going with constant happy barking as we drive down the street. Big Sheltie grin on her face.

It's selfish....she's my buddy. MINE! She's loyal, scares the you-know-what out of strangers, won't let anyone come in here who's not invited. My GS was here, along with his little buddy. The dad came to pick up the buddy, the dog took after him, ready to attack. The mom can come & get him, no problem. She's smarter than the other breeds we've had. She's loyal, did I mention that? :-)

Now, all that hair is another story.....

i'm jealous of all you folks that have dogs. i have 4 cats and would adopt a pound puppy in a nanosecond but my husband is against it. i'm tempted to do it anyway.
