lOVELY BABIES!
My daughter brought home a long-haired shep from France, where his sire was the national grand champion. Pasha lived for 16 years and was as noble as they come.

Of course humans have had an influence! He expects to have his dinner prepared and delivered to him! LOL, wonderful dog, intensly loyal. Loves the kids around here, tries to eat fireworks.

I have a puppy that is sort of a shepherd. Someone dropped him off on us. He is at least half shepherd and whatever else I don't know. He probably has some of that awful Chow in him as his tongue is partly blue.
For some reason the Chow bad temperament and stupidity is not showing up. He is showing signs of being a very good dog. It only took one time to teach him to shake, and about three tries to get him to sit.
He has a couple of bad features. He chews up everything in sight and is almost too smart for his own good. he can get things out of the barn that I swear there is no way he can get to them, but somehow he does.
Abslutely amazed a few days ago when he caught a squirrel. He had injured the poor animal so that it couldn't get away and was playing with it like a cat with a mouse. I would rather he leave the ones around the house alone but what can you do?
Can't wait till our Daughter visits. She loves all dogs.

Sounds very familiar. Shay was tall, large boned, slender but did weigh 110. He was a disinterested eater.

Hair, hair - did you say hair. I understand GS are one of the lucky ones with a trible coat!! I'm sure people figured we never vacuumed the floor.

Friendly advice; Feed all dogs twice a day rather than once. Many larger breeds can get twisted gut from over eating. My sister-in-law just lost a wonderful five year old shepard last month from this.
I've had shepards since age seven, usually two at a time.I can't imagine living without one.
Top line on these dogs is judged by form and function, some good, some not so good.

I don't know how many vaccumes I burned up before I found one at sears that doesn't have the intake running straight through the engine. Akita hair all comes out at once; the shepard is nothing next to one of them.

Take heart. At 2 years and 3 months Shay stopped all the puppy chewing (not to mention ALL the other things intelligent dogs do if bored).

We used to have a dog, now departed this world, that used to get really excited when we came home. Chopper would go and get his rock (about a 5 lb rock) and toss it in the air to impress us. He was a very lovable dog but not too smart.

I found a place that adopts out abandonded or abused G.S.'s. Freepmail me if you ever get serious about it, OK? Well, if you can convince hubby to get serious, that is.

I've got the one from Amway....really expensive, but boy has it been worth it. It's got the bin where the gunk goes in, rather than the bags. My dad has me send him dog hair so he can put it around his garden to keep the deer out. Ha! ANOTHER reason for getting a shepherd.

Hair? Hair? I have a sign in my hallway that says
This house is protected by killer dustbunnies. My Corgi only sheds twice a year, though - January to June and July to December! Corgis are sorta like shepherds with short legs . . .

I hope he didn't try to catch that 5 lb rock!

We have a 5 1/2 month old Schutzhund--German-German Shepherd. They are generally heavier and shorter in the body than the American German Shepherd. Our puppy, Sarge, is about 55 lbs now and a handful!!!! We have to get him to pupy school soon because he really needs training.
QUESTION:TO FIX OR NOT TO FIX??? We never had any of our other shepherds fixed, and the last one we had, Max (there's that name again)whom we had to put to sleep in July, became a bit of a problem in his later years when we had a struggle over who was the alpha male!!! (or alpha-female) Since we do not intend to breed him, should we fix him??

I've heard of those Amway vacumes.... they're supposed to be great. Someone gave me this sears one- it keeps going and going. If your Dad ever needs more dog hair, let me know... I get garbage bags of it at a time.

If you fix him, you totally eliminate the possiblities of prostrate problems and testiscular cancer. Also helps (a LOT) with domination issues.

I hope he didn't try to catch that 5 lb rock!Actually he did. He was pretty good at it but sometimes he would miss and get hit on the head by the rock.

that's what I have heard--of course--there is nothing there for the cancer to attack. But, will his bark be higher pitched????
