If his plane is hijacked, Don Detrich wants the attackers to know he will consider it his "patriotic duty to get up from my seat and kick ass."

As founder of the fledgling Flight Watch Hijacking Resistance League, Detrich has urged airline passengers to fight back, using weapons from ballpoint pens to beverage carts. As his message has spread from his Web site to media outlets from coast to coast, he's heard from dozens of potential recruits eager to get on board.

Just hope you are on a plane with me...I am a nurse that worked in a walk in detox unit..I have delt with murderers and rapists that presented drunk and high..I have had physical confrontations with armed men. Conservative women are not wimps......

Ideally, airline check-in would go something like this:

Attractive Check-in clerk (C):"Good Morning Sir/Ma'am, I see that you are (in the military/ a law enforcement officer/ a CCW permit holder/ etc.). Do you have a copy of your current handgun certification?"

Traveler (T):"Why, yes I do." Hands over his OCC scorecard.

(C):"Wow, I'm only in the 2600 Club myself. Will you be carrying your own weapon this morning?"

(T):"Unfortunately not, I'm returning from Europe."

(C):Shudders "Ugh, those horrid socialists. Well, Mr. Smith, welcome back to civilization. As you know, our policy, like that of all US domestic air carriers is that qualified citizens go armed while aboard our flights. Here is your Federalist Airlines issue Kimber Custom II with complimentary paddle holster. The weapon is at condition two, loaded with safety slugs, and has an internal guide rod laser sight. A nice idea, but unfortunately too little too late. The confounding factor here will be the sorry state of the sheeple with respect to training, cayones, and resolve after decades of neutering at the hands of femi-nazis and other liberals in schools, churches, TV, and the news media.

I have been happy to observe, however, that the newly federalized "screeners" clearly are untrained and unimaginative with respect to noting the presence of field-expedient weapons. The resourceful FReeper still need not fly unarmed.

But, let us never forget that which the terrorists so insightfully predicted -- namely, that four teams of 3-5 operatives each were able to commandeer four and crash three airliners (each carrying ca. 150 potential resistors) into important civilian and military targets without benefit of firearms or other weapons more formidable than box cutters.

Those aboard the plane that crashed in PA. apparently did not attempt to re-capture their aircraft until they were informed of the terrorists' plan and had nothing to lose, despite the unopposed slitting of the throat of at least one person aboard. The nation's blind lionization of a few designated "heroes" who clearly waited too long to "roll" resembles the mindset of a kid who cannot let go of his need to believe in Santa Claus.

This is all well and good, but remember-flight 77 STILL went down. Beamer and the others were in good shape physically but in the end they were no match for the killers. This guy's dreamin' if he thinks that all of a sudden a 170 pound office boy is gonna become a force to be reckoned with.

Pilots should be armed. A gun is the only equalizer.
