I dubbed this one "RapeTV" when it came out years ago...every third show involved a rape. Never watch it anymore...never watch anything. I actually had to go and find a place to plug my TV in on 9-11 to see what was happening.

Although "Free Republic TV" might not be such a bad idea....look at the barbs tossed out here on any given day....Jim Rob, you listening?

Some of this stuff would have your average Hollywood "writer" running for cover.

Lifetime isn't as bad as Oxygen. Oxygen's only saving grace is that it is the only place to watch Xena.

I know what you mean by the "lisping" shows, I don't care for them either, it is the auction shows and a couple of the gardening shows that are their best. :-)

What is "Oxygen"?
To: rintense
Although I get the feeling it will be more akin to carbon monoxide. Starvation of the brain and all that goes with it.

The Oxygen network is the cable network owned and operated by none other than... Oprah.

In my opinion, the Lifetime channel (and others like it) make all women the victims. The men, corporations, business, etc. are the villans, while the women are helpless and its never their fault. I stopped watching these channels along time ago.

I think of it as "Lifetime: The Midol Channel".

Lifetime is amusing, every story is the same. The first ten minutes is really the end of the show; the woman, our tragic victim, gets murdered and we don't know who did it. Then we go back to the very beginning, where everything is so nice and she's got her life so together and then she meets a wonderful man who later turns out to be a murderer, which of course she had no way of predicting because he was such a nice, charming guy at the start. Then we have the court scene where the odds are totally stacked against the guy's conviction but somehow the guy always gets convicted anyway because some brilliant female lawyer saves the day. This crap is just like real life, isn't it? There is this real hatred of men among everyday women and they pass this attitude onto their little girls so the cycle continues. Granted there are some bad seed men but like there aren't bad seed women, too? Even in comedies, go back to Lucy even, the woman always made the man look unreasonable and ultimately stupid as she prevailed in the end to the cheers of the soundtrack crowd in the background. Could you ever imagine a show like Maude but where the tables were turned. Of course I think Maude is a man anyway but you get my point. The point to be made here is this - in many cases victimization IS the victim's fault, like when a woman is out at a bar, 2:00 A.M., drunk, accepts a ride with a stranger, etc., and this kind of stuff does happen all the time. Can these women really not know certain signs that say "this guy isn't a decent person?" I don't buy it. If that was the case then why do so many women stay with abusers until they meet with a bad end? No, people should exert a great deal of control over their own lives and if these women didn't do that then that is in large part their own fault. Victimhood is a mindset in many cases, it's self-perpetuating. And to glorify and celebrate it is downright sick.

My father is a retired architect. He calls the lispers 'inferior desecraters'.

I am of the opinion that when presented with such distortions and generalizations on a regular basis, even the most steadfast among us may begin to be affected by such garbage.Star, I think you may be experiencing the third person effect. That is, a tendency to think that others are more influenced by media than you are. We all like to think we're above average, and that only that vast empty-headed populace out their will succumb to the propaganda. But, people tend to gravitate to information and entertainment that they already agree with. So sure, some people will be influenced, those who haven't formed any opinions or taken a strong stand against this nonsense. But that's not likely to be the steadfast conservative. I hope this explanation relieves some of your concerns.

The History Channel..ugh! How many times have you all sat down to what you thought would be a 'serious' discussion of U.S. history, the Constitution, etc., only to be confronted by sheeple who quote THC or PBS as sources?
Although I must say that the dreadful "The Crossing" (A&E?) which purported to tell the story of Washington crossing the Delaware at least prompted some interest in the Revolutionary War by some who would have never otherwise given it a second thought.

If I ever catch my wife or my mistress watching this channel, I'll beat 'em to a bloody pulp!! Thank you for that. LOL. I love irony, and I believe this qualifies.

I have the perfect antidote to Lifetime:
The Outdoor Channel. Nothing but hunting, fishing and gold prospecting (!) 24 hours a day!! Tell your wife that every hour she watches Lifetime, you get to watch TOC. She'll never turn it on again!
