A world-renowned Harvard scientist and expert in highly contagious and deadly viruses mysteriously disappeared in Tennessee early last Friday, leaving a rental car on a Memphis bridge.

Don C. Wiley was in town to visit relatives and attend the annual meeting of the scientific advisory board of St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. Police said there were no signs of foul play, just the car with the keys in the ignition on a bridge that spans the Mississippi River. Police found the car five hours after Wiley left a dinner at a posh hotel several blocks from the bridge.

He may be implicated in A-gate. I saw a story earlier that over 50% of the grades given at Harvard were "A"s.

Also discussed Here and on another thread that I can't find anymore.

It was deleted after this fellow called MindBender26 began saying he had called law enforcement on me so I hit abuse.

It was quite disconcerting.

"...the sort of domestic terrorism we accept and don't go to war against: crime."

Well stated and, unfortunately, very true.

What you have said, the odds are great that the Doctor was carjacked, robbed, and then THROWN over the side of the bridge.

I read this article and am sure, this bit of news is going to cause a significant turn in the anthrax scare. I am not sure if it is going to be a turn or a spin, lets wait and watch.

I think we'll be doing a lot of that: as in Vince Foster, Ron Brown, Danny Casolaro, the FLIR expert, Barbara Wise, Danny Ferguson, those 4 BATF ex-Clinton bodyguards at Waco etc., etc., ETC.

Yes, even before the Clintons came to power Arkansas was bananas--under Winthrop Rockefeller's watch they found a bunch of buried bodies on prison farm property. But now it just ain't the Okies anymore--it's U.S.!

Overstating the crime problem in Memphis

Sorry, I don't buy it. Memphis is a cesspool. Almost everytime someone from my small town goes to Memphis they get robbed or have something stolen from them. A couple of years ago at the Mid-South Fair there was a gang fight with about a hundred rounds fired into the crowd with several wounded. The Commie Appeal and the Local television stations did not run the story but the papers that were from the surrounding communities did. I have several friends that are Memphis Police Officers and they relate numerous happenings that Willie "Hump a woman for promotion" Harrington keeps under wraps. I also have a good friend that manages the Memphis City Council and the things that are kept under the Radar screen in that city are astounding. Memphis is a cesspool and since Willie has been in power the population of Memphis' whites has plummetted. Beale and Downtown safe? I guess it is since most of the stores and restaurants there along the trolley have bars on their windows and require a buzzer to enter.

Interesting...every time someone you know comes to Memphis, they get robbed or have something stolen. Are they here buying crack? Well, whatever...Like I said, I've lived here 31 years, and have never been robbed and have never had anything stolen. Is there a crime problem? Sure, no doubt. Is it as bad as you say? Clearly not. However, if you go in the wrong areas at the wrong times, I guess crime will find you. Also, I've never been to a restaurant or store in downtown Memphis where I had to be buzzed in, but I don't dispute that they probably do exist. I just spent thirty days in NYC, and every store there has a gate they pull down over the front of the store every night, but that didn't lead me to feel unsafe. Just business owners keeping out the riff raff after hours.

Mayor Herenton has his faults, no doubt about that. But the last mayor wouldn't even admit that there were gangs in Memphis (he was white by the way), and the crime rate was certainly higher then than now. Denying it doesn't make it not so. Anyway, no doubt that Memphis needs lots of work in lots of areas. Crime, education, etc. But the point I was actually trying to make is that a car parked on the middle of the Hernando Desoto Bridge points to suicide, not a carjacking/rape/robbery/body dump. Maybe it was. We will find out when the body pops up around Greenville.

Hope you and your friends either figure out a better way to take care yourselves in Mempho or find a different place to shop or whatever brings you to town. That getting robbed/raped/stole from every time has got to suck.

It is terribly gauche, but I found myself laughing with your post at #6, as I had to read the quote twice just to get the drift of it.
