Inasmuch as I think that TNC is a dispicable organization and that perhaps its officers belong in jail for racketeering and fraud by colluding with self-interested government agencies to use the police power of the state to manipulate the value of private property in pursuit of a private interest, they are better than government in one respect: They usually take care of the properties that they acquire (unless they are acquired for their investment value). TNC actually conducts a fair amount of research into restoring habitat and controlling infestations of exotic species.

And now for ANOTHER shameless, completely gratuitous, and self-serving plug:

However, do you want an armed monopolist and a gang of greedy real estate manipulators using your tax money to manage the environment?
There IS a better way.

I believe that ultimately, the Green-grabbers cannot win.  That is because as rural land is grabbed, food prices will go up.  As the reasons for such price increases become obvious, their support will drop drastically  However, they can cause a lot of damage in the interim.

Selective enforcement of the Endangered Species Act, arbitrary application of wetlands regulations, massive government land purchases, or protracted disputes over grazing and water rights...

This is a fact. My brother owns a few acres in Michigan outside Detroit and the land police would not let him clear his land since it had some standing water on it (they call it wetlands). The swamp causes mosquitoes among other things. There is a little creek running thru his property that became obstructed over the years – so it is not a “naturally occurring” swamp. He did some clearing of the waterway (which I believe he was allowed) – and viola’ – no more “wetland”. Therefore, he has regained some control of his property! What a bunch of loons, these environmentalists!
