Considering the quality of goods available under the mullahs, I would think there would be a long line for people wanting to be Amway distributors.

One of the mullahs (Khatami) is human. Those years in West Germany being exposed to German culture paid off handsomely.
As for the rest of them, they are not worth a camel fart.

I find it hard to believe this is real. Where did you get it?
To: Republic of Texas
I wrote it. (I do that sometimes.)

Khatami is human I don't disagree. I've had high hopes for Khatami. But I don't know if was the years in Germany that cured him of Khomeiniism. After all, Khomeini himself was in exile in the south of France throught the 70s.
but, I think Khatami knows the Revolution has replaced the corruption of the Shah with that of the Mullahs. He knows that the people are tired of it. Perhaps, he thinks he can salvage what he perceives is the best of it. Who knows, he might be like the Iranian Gorbachev. Trying desperately to save the system. But ultimately, doomed by the forces he tries to control.
I suspect he, too, will fail, and preside over the transition to a more liberal society.
By the way... Would you mind if I distributed this essay to some of my friends?

If only it were true....
Sorry Iran, but you owe us a few thousand heads.

Yours is, by the way, the best piece to be published on FR in recent memory.
Thanks for the effort. You got my attention, made your point...and gave me a laugh. All at the same time. Good writing...

This (fictional?) piece is more accurate than most people would believe.

No problem. Distribute to your heart's content.

The best solution to this problem would be to capture him, take him to Qom, try him under the Sharia and behead him on international television......and then Shia down his neck.

Thanks for one of the most hillarious and entertaining pieces I've read in quite a while. The word brilliant also comes to mind. The only thing funnier would be if the some "thumb sucker" picks up on this and publishes it.

Publius, my addition (the intracave memo) at post #10 was intended to inject more humor into the thread. I hope it didn't alter the intent of the thread too much.

Nah. I loved it.

Well, I won First Runner-Up for Essay of the Week. I'm really jazzed about this. For a while I was afraid I'd lost my touch.

Checking in a bit late but LOVE yur writing. Thanks Publius for the look at the balancing act of the Middle East. BTW, I also think this is a ground floor opportunity. Would rather rule than serve. I have a lot more trust in "our side."

Thanks, Publius, I needed that. In your next essay, be sure to put in all the terrorist training they're doing in Afghanistan now, so they can tie down the Americans in a real quagmire...
