I am trying to find an article written by a Freeper. How do I do a detailed search for articles posted by a particular Freeper? There used to be a link for information on deatiled searches. But I cannot find it anymore. Maybe I've gone blind.

If you can't find it in the FR search, use google. Go to www.google.com and type freerepublic 11th Earl of Mar.
While you are at it, download the google toolbar. It puts a little google search field in your toolbar, so you will never have to type www.google.com again. It's great.

Click user's name to view profile. Click "Find in Forum".

BTW, searches are kinda goofy right now. The software is still in transition to a new codebase. To facilitate the change, the structure of the database has been altered, leaving certain features (esp of search) temporarily broken.

Google searches may be narrowed down to Free Republic or any other specific web site by using the following format:
"What you are searching for"site:www.freerepublic.com

Have the Archives been out of reach for a while? I seem to try to look some old stuff up weekly and always get the message that it is not available.
Thanks as always, John.

How do I do a detailed search.... A compass, a map...and if your posting in the evening, a night vision scope

I've figured it out, I think. 1. Do fifteen searches on every possible keyword you can think of. 2. Post your article. 3. Watch the snide comments about reposts fill up half of the thread of the discussion that follows.

Archives have been whacked for awhile; the search routine was too slow for the heavy load and caused a massive log jam under certain circumstances. I've been exploring new ways to search the half-million plus record database.

If I want to search articles posted by Jim Robinson or John Robinson, how can I do it witout going to Google?
And if I want to find a list of flagged posts[Christian_list, abortion_list, homeschool_list, etc] how do I do that? Thanks. No complaints here. Only questions.
