Sept. 11 Fund-United Way Giving Donations To Leftest's Causes!
Washington Times ^

Politics Trumps Charity

"One of the largest relief funds set up to help the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks has awarded grants totaling more than $1 million to a variety of left-wing political groups devoted to causes like hate-crime legislation, expanded welfare, gun control and nationalized health care," Marc Morano reports at CNSNews.com.

"According to United Way CEO Brian Gallagher, the September 11th Fund has received donor pledges totaling $334 million, with $250 million already collected and $47 million distributed. The fund is a project of the United Way and the New York Community Trust," the reporter said.

"But critics say many of the groups receiving charitable contributions from the fund have little or nothing to do with helping victims of the attacks, and records show contributions are used to pay for things including ethnic media, office equipment and massage therapy."

In one case, the September 11th Fund awarded a grant of $31,000 to the Children's Defense Fund, which has been at the forefront of lobbying for "children's rights," gun control and expanded welfare programs, the reporter said. "Giving money to organizations that have controversial political agendas like CDF's and not directly assisting victims' families is just flat out wrong," said John Carlisle of the Capital Research Center, a conservative charity-watchdog group.

The September 11th Fund also awarded $30,000 to the Asian American Legal Defense & Educational Fund to provide "legal help and preventative measures against hate violence."

A top official with the National Legal and Policy Center, a Washington, D.C.-based legal watchdog group, called it "a shame," that so much money was being disbursed to groups with a clear "political or ideological agenda."

Your donation money is going to Leftest causes: ethnic media, children's rights, gun control, extended welfare programs! Please contact UNITED WAY and let them know your outrage! This money was given to the victim's families, not a myriad of Leftest causes!

Better yet, e this info to O'Reilly and let him expose them. He's tenacious and won't let the subject drop.

The UW is a central member of the liberal "beehive" that Joseph Sobran writes about. People have to understand that the UW is a leftist organization, pure and simple.

One would think given the hard time O'Reilly gave the Red Cross, that the United Way would at least pretend to be straight!

I just sent O'Reilly an e with the article enclosed. I think if enough of us bring it to his attention, he'll expose them as he did the Red Cross.

I never understood why United Way (which has a history of siphoning money off for other causes and upper management bonuses) was a middle man in so many 9-11 donations.

Originally I donated to the UW at work, dedicating my pledge to specific causes I supported. When I learned that UW would offset those dedicated pledges out of the general fund I changed my attitude. As I understand it, charities that are "excluded" from donations are brought up to "par" with "general fund" donations (while the blind and deaf charaties I gave to get slighted some $$$ because I committed money to them). I also asked for my donation to be anonymous (I didn't need to acknowledgement and didn't need to be solicited by other charities). I still received a "thank you" card (which, in itself had to cost something).

The United Way has no shame, never has, never will. Anyone who donates to them is a fool.

They count upon corporate pressure being put on those who will not donate; they hope the poor employee will fear for his job.

Go ahead and complain, it won't matter to them. Drudge, O'Reilly, Hannity, Rush ... won't matter how often they are exposed.

Sorry I am so negative...I had this great post to put on a thread, and it was deleted while I was typing...admittedly, the thread was hateful, but being the clever, humourous, person that I am...ah, I'll get over it....but I won't get over the United Way. It needs to be destroyed, before folks stop giving to any charity, thinking they are all as evil as UW.

Triple Bump! These people are swindlers pure and simple.

Remember William Aramony former head of United Way who used money to keep a love nest for his eighteen year old girlfriend and other outrages.

These people get corporations to EXTORT money from their employees. Don't give them a penny!

Regards,

O'Reilly has been poking at these charities for 6 weeks and these guys are so stupid as to ignore this. They think it's business as usual, which of course puts their "usual business" squarely on the agenda. Charities will now become the objects of investigation for their shady practices and questionable payments.

Since 9/11 another charity has come to my attention: the Christian Children's Fund of Richmond, Va. Someone who worked there advised that her boss - a Moslem - would not permit employees to display flags or patriotic sentiments. She said the organization keeps adding high-ranking, highly-paid executives who do nothing, thus increasing administrative costs. Further, she said, the organization has been discussing removing "Christian" from its name, considering its work has absolutely nothing to do with the gospel and it has such a large number of Moslems working for it. They finally decided to continue calling themselves the Christian Children's Fund only because they knew Christians would stop donating the hundreds of millions of dollars if they didn't give the appearance of doing religious work. Does anyone know anything about this group? I have a feeling it's another UW or ARC - started with good intentions, but now benefiting executives more than the people it should be serving.
