"Have you read The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan? It's an unfinished series--book 10 should be out next fall. Personally, I like it better than the LOTR."I've read all the books so far. Frankly, I think the whole series could have been finished up in four books, instead of...what are we on now, the eighth? If his characters were a little less screwed up. I get very frustrated with them. His story line is very original, though, which is why I read them.
IMO, Raymond E. Feist and R.A. Salvatore are much better.
The father of the genre, J.R.R. Tolkein, is in a class all by himself. He is the master.
Hmmm, since I just finished rereading LOTR not long ago, maybe I'll reread "Farmer Giles of Ham".
Thanks for the recommendations, I'll check them out.
I'm sorry, but I couldn't read Jordan if you paid me. He also writes westerns. I tried the first book in the series and someone gave me like the 8th book. He reminds me of Piers Anthony with his descriptions. Just a little too long winded. Tolkien can get that way and I feel did at times, but there was something about it that didn't bother me as much
