This topic comes up frequently on FreeRepublic. Why is it so hard for you to understand?
ACTUALLY sometimes I think more of me is Libertarian than not. . . . however. . .
It seems to me your argument ASSUMES that there is NO Ultimate Authority; NO perfect law; NO Ultimate standard of morality, no Ultimate Accountability.
Or, you might say--Oh, there is, but I disagree on where to draw the line.
Certainly where to draw the line can be a sticky wicket. But there is some interesting evidence that touches on all this. . . . Crime varies inversely with church attendance--statistics back for 200 years, if I recall accurately, attest to this in every study done on it. Do we legislate church attendance? I don't think that would work, for one. I don't think it would help. I think God looks on the heart as tooooo big a priority.
If you were aware that homosexuality above a miniscule proportion of a population resulted in lack of rain; drought for extended years--would you consider that a harm to others?
If you studied the lives of homosexuals with more or less endless short time stands; high suicide; high depression etc. . . and concluded that homosexuality was not the big thrill some media and other lobbyists made it out to be--and that seduction/recruitment was much higher of minors than heterosexual such was--would you consider it then a harm to others?
If you considered that easy divorce; abortion; welfare excesses; alcoholism etc. undermined the family unit and thereby society resulting in higher crime, higher disease rates, higher violence, higher disregard for human life; higher disregard for commitments, responsibility and higher aversion to doing the right thing in relationships and society--would you consider that a harm to others?
That is really the guts of the whole argument isn`t it? You believe in the ultimate authority of God. I respect that and I have absolutely no problem with it. I on the other hand am unsure. Just as you believe in the absolute authority of God, many people don`t believe in God. They believe that when you die you return to non-existence, game over. I also respect their right to believe that, it is their choice. I think that you may well be correct, and if so, on my judgement day, I will have a lot to answer for. Many people believe that they will not experience judgement day. Do you respect that?
