The civil war was a conflict between a new American system, including both the new political freedoms and the thing then called the American System of Economics (Friedrich List's theories and the rapid funding of infrastructure) all of which stressed the worth and dignity of individuals, and the total system of exploitation which was the British Empire after the Napoleanic wars.
