"CBS Evening News" anchorman Dan Rather doesn't think much of the commander of the U.S. war effort in Afghanistan.
In an upcoming issue of Rolling Stone magazine the TV news superstar complains that Gen. Tommy Franks "has been the least accessible of any U.S. commander with this many troops and this much responsibility in the history of the country.
"Saying that will probably eliminate me from ever getting an interview with him," adds the multi-million dollar newsman, according to the website Ratherbiased.com. "But we need the facts in full. I'll go ahead and say it: I may be wrong, but on my bull meter, the pointer begins to bound against the post."
Only weeks ago Rather was singing a far more patriotic tune, saying he'd join the war effort if President Bush wanted him to.
"George Bush is the president. He makes the decisions, and, you know, it's just one American, but wherever he wants me to line up, just tell me where," he told late night talk host David Letterman.
But now that U.S. war planners have Osama bin Laden and the Taliban on the run, the CBS newsman has turned snippy.
"(The military wants) the public to have a perception that everything is beautiful" so they won't reveal the targets of U.S. attacks, he tells Rolling Stone.
"So let me get this straight. The enemy knows where the targets are because they've just been hit, right? And the people who hit the targets obviously know because they have mission analysis afterward. So by and large, the only people being kept in the dark are the American people."

The enemy knows where the targets are because they've just been hit, right? Only the enemy within earshot who weren't killed, Dan. The enemy two hills over may not. You know, all that missing communications stuff?

"But we need the facts in full I believe this is what we have been saying for over eight years. I suppose that didn't matter when Clinton was pres.

I hear Rather is up for the "Peter Arnett Award for Integrity in Journalism."

Rather whining: "Why won't they let me make my career on this war?
Other leaders let me s(&k up to them.
I won't leak too many US secrets during this war; just a few for CBS ratings as is reasonable, right?"

OK. let's see. Dan Rather wants an interview for his SHOW, and so the COMMANDER OF THE U.S. MILITARY OPEARATION, who already has very large bags under his eyes from lack of sleep, is going to STOP RUNNING THE FREAKING WAR and give this BOZO a FREAKING INTERVIEW!!!!!!!!!
Fellow FReepers I need your help to get through this. I don't have the skills to do it on my own.

My opinion of the General has gone even higher.
Rather has been watching to many of his own commercials.

The mainstream news media morphed into what they are today due to, and about the time of the Gulf war. This launched CNN. Then they had 8 years of scandal. When GWB took over, they started to recede. They hyped and over-reported every story they could find to justify themselves. The prospect of a continuing and bright future was pretty dim without a scandal or other national crisis. Trust me, they are nearly orgasmic and are thrilled we have this war for them to report. But, this war is not about Dan Rather and his news cronies.

Dans anthrax attack didnt pan out, he cried on national TV and nobody cared, now a true American war victory is slipping through his fingers. Looks like Dan will have to retire known as the idiot hugging a tree in the middle of a hurricane. Greatest Generation? not you, Dan.

You're doing just fine, you said it all and very well put I may add. I liked Dan better crying than whining, but alas he always reverts to type.

Dan Rather in his "glory" days

To: NoControllingLegalAuthority
Dan Blather thinks he is somebody.
He is finding out what we already know, that he is really nobody.
Except to his Communist buddies.
Maybe he should petition the Al Queda for an interview.

My caption for that picture:
Rather: 'Fidel's my hero; He controls the minds of an entire country!'
Castro: 'Dan's my hero; He controls the minds of an entire country!'

Hey Dan! Whaa! Whaa! Whaa! Crybaby.
Gen. Franks is too busy crushing the taliban to talk with an idiot like Dan Rather.

Tomorrow's Headline: "Top US Commander Slams Dan Rather as Moron-- Morons Take Exception"
To: NoControllingLegalAuthority
I sent Nicholas Von Hoffman at the New York Observer one of my finest nasty-grams yesterday (for his asinine column of 11/19- you have to read it to believe how moronic these scribblers can be!).
I don't know if I have enough adjectives left over for "Gunga Dan" Rather- but if I do email him, it will will be something to the effect of "Since you couldn't lead a platoon of ants to a picnic, why do you feel qualified to harass the people running this tremendous war effort?".
To: semper_libertas
Rather couldn't reignite his credibility even if he had a flare up his butt showering in gasolene. Tommy Franks made General by not wasting his time with idiot savants such as Blather (aka Sunshine Patriot) IMHO.
Stay Safe....

What a frigging worthless bag of crap! Sadly, many of the buffoons who populate Pentagon briefings (telecast by Fox News) give every indication of having attended the Dan Rather School of "Journalism", which means that Diaper Dan's retirement is not going to end such silliness.
