Ben Laden encircled in a small zone of the south-east of Afghanistan (press)
Sunday November 18, 2001 - 12h36 GMT LONDON, Nov. 18 (AFP) - the British and American special forces encircled Oussama Ben Laden in a zone of some 80 km2 in the south-east of Afghanistan and are only "à a few hours "of him, according to Sunday Times and Sunday Telegraph which quote sources of the ministry for Defense.
"very interesting" information which was collected could lead to the arrest of Ben Laden "in the days to come", according to a source placed high of the ministry for the Defense quoted by Sunday Telegraph.
Commandos were conveyed by helicopter in this zone close to Kandahar, the stronghold of the talibans, to prevent Ben Laden from taking refuge in Pakistan, according to Sunday Times which also quotes sources of the ministry.
According to these sources, the supposed terrorist of origin saoudienne would be "static" some share in the south-east of Kandahar. "For a series of reasons, we are persuaded that it could not go far", affirmed a person in charge for the ministry quoted by Sunday Times.
Oussama Ben Laden is always in Afghanistan, in the province of Kandahar (southern), affirmed Sunday with the AFP Younis Qanooni, one of the persons in charge for the Alliance of north.
"According to my information, Ben Laden is still with Maruf", locality located at approximately 130 kilometers in the east of the town of Kandahar, said the Minister of Interior Department of Alliance.
"the plan always was to reduce the space of Ben Laden", declared the minister British in Defense, Geoff Hoon. "the space in which it operates now is very limited", it added quoted by Sunday Times.
"It always moved but its capacity to do it is reduced more and more", estimated Mr. Hoon quoted by Sunday Telegraph.
"My feeling is that that is to say we will obtain information which enables us to find it, or more probably, with the collapse of the talibans in the south, somebody will give it, perhaps a local head who knows where it is", continued the minister.
Saturday evening, the representative of the talibans in Pakistan contradicted information indicating that Ben Laden had left Afghanistan with his wives and his children. Oussama Ben Laden "is in Afghanistan but I do not know if it is on our territory or in the zone controlled by the Alliance of North", declared Saleem Zaeef.

"What made him think he could take on the most powerful nation...?" Easy--for the past 8 years, at least, we have done nothing whenever Bin Laden-and-Company destroyed and/or terrorized America/Americans (WTC,1993; embassies, 1998; USS Cole, 2000; etc.). Given the American polls, media, and our complacency (sp?), he may have come to the right conclusion. Only trouble: we now have a real leader and a real man in the White House!!!

I think it's worth pointing out that if this report is true, we have him within an 80 square kilometer region. That would mean a region roughly 9 km by 9 km square, and that corresponds to a region less than 6 miles by 6 miles. Obviously, a lot room in which to hide, but on the other hand a whole lot smaller than, say, the Hindu Kush. Seems like his dream of meeting Allah is about to come true.

Have him eaten alive by half starved swine!

This is almost a "must." I say, hang the MF's rotting corpse, from what's left of the World Trade Center, and let everyone take a gander at pure evil....Bin Laden, you're body is going to be used as excrement!

I find it interesting how Glover picks his "don't kill them" murderers. Does anyone recall him speaking up against executing McVey? I can't recall hearing anything out of him or any of the rest of his buddies who are against the death penality. I think that Glover should be forcibly thrown into the middle of the survivors of 9-11 and let him try to explain his way out of the crowd. What a scumbag.

Any news updates on this nugget?

Shoot, Dershowitz will try to convince the jury that OBL is innocent by reason of insanity. I think a good punishment for OBL is to take him to the stadium the Taliban use for executions, strip him naked and then let loose all the women of Afghanistan with baseball bats to chase him down and beat the livin' pulp outta him.

Hope it's true.

I am ever so sick of the pious Hollywood crowd pontificating on what the rest of us should tolerate, accept, not do, do, believe in, etc etc. Glover's such a peacenik, yet he has no qualms about playing a gun carrying, criminal shooting cop in the Lethal Weapon movies.

We should stuff and mount him, then dispay his carcass as a war trophy at the Pentagon. Along with ALL other terrorist enemies of America.

"the arrest of Ben Laden..." Yea right. They may make his heart stop but I doubt it will be called cardiac "arrest".

If it's true that there are 10 Osama look-alikes running around Afghanistan, how could anyone know if we get the real one??? Maybe it doesn't matter as long as we get one of them... Simple. Kill them all. Let Allah sort them out.
I seem to remember reading somewhere that we have DNA samples from one or more of Osama bin "Deadman Walking" Laden's relatives and offspring, so when they find his body it can be matched.

If they kill him right away, how can he kiss Mike Moran's royal Irish ass?

"I wonder why he thought he could murder 5000+ Americans and get away with it. " Because he's been murdering Americans since 1993 with impunity, courtesy of bin Billy Clinton. I guess like most liberals, he thought Gore won in 2000 too.

I say take all of these peaceniks spouting this crapola and let them tell it to the victims families, the firefighters, the police officers and the rest of the sane world that KNOWS right from wrong.
I would like to add that I think that Hollyweird should just be held incommunicado with the rest of the world for as long as it takes. I'm sick of their ______.
