16 replies and no one mentions this:
"Speaking to several hundred people at the Providence Biltmore Hotel, Rodriguez brought up the country club toward the end of his speech on the danger of religious zealotry -- such as the Taliban or Jerry Falwell -- which does not allow for dissenting views. "
Can't say I always agree with jerry Falwell, but equating him with the Taliban?!!? Isn't that just about the most nasty slam they could do on Falwell? Guilt by association?
And what is this doing in a news article? Looks a lot like the author inserting his own political views and opinion into a news article, but then we're used to that by now....

I have a cousin that supports the Democratic Party completely while reading for the mass each week. This is why the American bishops need to do some strategic excommunications.

The Supreme Court has said you jave to let in protected classes, blacks & women. Maybe they'll get a new one, abortion doctors.

I follow Groucho's example, "I would never join any club that would accept me as a member!"

No, the article is very clear that it had nothing to do with his race.

Picked up on that too. Time those who compare conservatives to the Taliban be slapped down and slapped down hard. The conservative=Nazi slur is getting old and it is very apparent the left is bent on replacing that with conservative=Taliban. Best to stop them before the slander takes hold in the public mind.

Let a black woman try and have lunch in the Supreme Court's dining facility, and we'll see about including "protected" classes!!

They used to associate Falwell with Khomeni. The left's definition of intolerance is "anyone who doesn't agree with us." Unfortunately, they reserve to right to practice their own version of intolerance.

Private clubs can deny membership to anyone they choose, and don't have to give a reason for their blackball. This is exactly how it should be. A private club is not open to the public. Apparently the abortionist doesn't understand that. And to take his rejection before the ACLU?
Cheers for the club members for maintaining the integrity of their private organization.

I'm extremely surprisedanyone at FreeRepublic would even think about coming to Falwell's defense...remember, he is no better than the handwringers who claimed it's America's fault the 9-11 happened - except for that oh-so-sincere retraction when he figured out how effen stupid it came across - he's no better than any of the other pols (he ain't no religous leader) who speak out of both sides of their mouths

The club is a five-minute walk from his house; his two boys wanted to use the pool.

Well, well, Pablo. Perhaps your sons would have more friends with whom they could play and perhaps they could even have gone to their own homes to go swimming. Unfortunately, you killed those children before they had a chance to grow up and be your boys' friends.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!! point well taken!!

"I know I'm a Catholic, and it wouldn't have bothered me to vote for him if I was on the board, and I thought he was otherwise a good citizen," said Noel, in an interview from his home in Florida. "The Supreme Court has said that abortion is legal, and we should all follow the Supreme Court and not our partucualr religious convictions." Another Catholic In Name Only. It's people like this guy, that caused me to leave the Catholic Church years ago. I'm not "Catholic" bashing here. I loved the Church greatly. But these CINO's were the overwhelming majority in the Church that I attended, were very outspoken, and I just couldn't take it anymore.
Traditional Catholics (who maintain that abortion is wrong, support life and hold to Church teachings) are the salt of the earth, IMO.
But scum like this guy, really tee me off.....

I'm not defending Falwell, I'm more outraged that they would compare any national figure who is not a murderous, freedom-hating, oppressive dictator with the Taliban. I had a liberal Democrat colleague who (pre-9/11) would refer to the Republican Taliban. He no longer does that because of what we have learned since 9/11. To equate most anyone with the Taliban is outrageous, IMHO.

Boo hoo hoo, his kids can't go to the most convenient pool. Oh, the horrors of "discrimination" in America!
At least his kids were not attacked and killed by some deranged doctor.
