James Chapter 1: (vs 16-27)
16 -Don't be deceived, my dear brothers.
17 -Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
18 -He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.
19 -My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,
20 -for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.
21 -Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.
22 -Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
23 -Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror
24 -and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.
25 -But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it--he will be blessed in what he does.
26 -If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless.
27 -Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. Thereore, works do matter, according to the Bible.
None of these things will save you.
2:4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
2:6 And hath raised [us] up together, and made [us] sit together in heavenly [places] in Christ Jesus:
2:7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in [his] kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:
2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
It is a mistake to even consider casual fellowship with them!
