Quoth Drudge:
President Bush plans to issue an executive order early next week naming the Justice Department after the late Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, according to sources familiar with the matter.
ROLL CALL Editor Ed Henry is first to break the controversial development.
The timing of the bipartisan gesture, which is expected to occur Tuesday, could be tied to the war on terrorism. In recent weeks, current Attorney General John Ashcroft has said the war being waged by the Justice Department is very similar to the war against organized crime that Kennedy launched as attorney general in the 1960s.
"Kennedy, it is said, would arrest a mobster for spitting on the streets if it would help defeat organized crime," Ashcroft said in a recent speech. "In the war on terror, it is the policy of this Department of Justice to be equally aggressive."
Rep. Tim Roemer (D-Ind.) has introduced legislation in the last three Congresses pushing for the department to be named after Kennedy. While the bill has never picked up enough steam to be signed into law, the retiring Roemer has personally lobbied Bush twice in recent months to act on the matter. Impacting...

I saw this on Drudge & nearly heaved.
What's going on with this POTUS,
anyway.
In light of the name they picked, what was wrong with, "Justice Department"?

"different Kennedy" when it comes to Kopechne - - - but M Monroe reportedly was shared by all.

Is "Kennedy Justice" an oxymoron?
To: laureldrive
What?!?!? Can you even do that, rename a department? Is this like people name colleges after people?
To: laureldrive
Maybe they could name a wing after the "Murder in Connecticut" girl, and top-secret, unnamed room after the "Ms X" who claimed the Kennedy cousin raped her in Palm Beach.
To: Landru
"Kennedy" has become a euphemism for "we can get away with anything" -- a la Michael Skakel and the rest of the clan. If so, that's pretty sad - not to mention alarming.
To: laureldrive
What's he going to call it?
The Department of Kennedy?
To: laureldrive
Will they then name congress after P. T. Barnum?

I don't know *if* it's a proper word, but here goes anyway...I'm nauseated at the thought.

RFK was an excellent AG who was assassinated in the 1960's. He certainly shouldn't be held responsible for the oafish behavior of his loser brother Edward.

Here we go again... trying to win political battles by getting the other side to "like us".
Where has this gotten us? No education reform, no social security reform, no tax reform, no ANWR drilling. Spending is increasing, and now thousands of airport workers are going to be added to the federal payroll.
The only thing that has occured is a small tax cut, which would have been even bigger if Bush decided to play hardball with it.
The end result of this is going to be a disaster for the GOP in the 2002 elections. We'll probably lose 4-5 Senate seats, and if we keep the House it will only be because of redistricting.
