FBI Sitting on Flt. 587 Videotape

A videotape that could show exactly what happened to American Airlines Flight 587, which crashed three minutes after taking off from New York's JFK airport on Monday, is in the hands of the FBI -- but the bureau has thus far declined to release it.

New York City's Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokesman Tom Kelly confirmed to the Daily News Friday that the agency has given surveillance videotapes from Cross Bay Blvd. and Marine Parkway bridges to the FBI.

"One tape captures the plane taking off from JFK," the News said.

Cross Bay Blvd. and Marine Parkway traverse Jamaica Bay, where the plane's vertical stabilizer was discovered intact after the crash.

Dozens of eyewitnesses have told media outlets they saw an explosion and/or a fire at the juncture of Flt. 587's wing and fusilage moments before it began to break up, losing its tail first, then both its engines.

Catastrophic engine failure, which was first suspected to have caused the explosion, was ruled out Tuesday after NTSB investigators examined the engines and found no evidence of mechanical failure.

Since discovering the engines were working properly, NTSB spokeswoman Marion Blakely -- along with most media outlets -- have quietly dropped references to witness accounts of a midair explosion.

The NTSB now says that wind turbulence from another plane is the most likely cause of the crash. One former jumbo jet veteran pilot was highly skeptical of the turbulence theory.

"If wind turbulence caused that accident, I'll never fly again," Barry Schiff, who flew 747's for TWA, told the New York Post.

But a videotape showing the exact sequence of Flt. 587's break-up could clear up any mystery, showing whether or not the break-up was caused by an explosion or by turbulence.

It's not clear why the FBI has not yet released the MTA video -- or even commented on what it shows. It's also not clear why the Flt. 587 video was not turned over to the NTSB instead of the FBI, which had reportedly adopted a secondary role in the wake of NTSB claims that the crash was an accident.

When an Air France Concorde jetliner crashed after catching fire on takeoff from a rural French airport last year, an amatuer video of the accident was released within 48 hours.

Calls to the FBI's New York office and to MTA spokesman Kelly were not returned by presstime.

I fear this thread will be a waste of bandwidth.

Have you guys stopped to think about what a security camera tape records in terms of frame rate and resolution? Geesh. It was put in place to watch traffic on the bridge, wasn't it?

Lighten up until they refuse to release it. Then you can legitimately cry cover up.

I doubt it will disappear like Ron Brown's X-rays.

The best thing about these scores of threads alleging an NTSB-FBI-FAA-NWO-UN-ILLUMINATI-CFO-TRILATERAL COMMISSION-BUSH/CHENEY coverup, is that they've displaced the scores of threads screaming about mass casualties from a couple of envelopes containing Anthrax.

The one question that nobody has answered yet is:

Where were The Pope, Henry Kissinger and David Rockefeller, on Monday morning?

They aren't allowed to alter the tape where it shows the building blowing out instead of in.
You'll never see the tape. Don't hold your breath.

People have raised the same questions about the OKC bombing--"why" would anyone do it, then cover it up. In point of fact, it isn't about the motive. It's about the fact (in the OKC case) that they won't release the evidence. If it happened as claimed, why not show us the tapes? The same can be said with Flt 587. If it happened as claimed, why not show us the the tape? Why the secrecy? Why tell everyone it was an accident before they even had a single investigator on the scene? This kind of behavior makes people suspicious. If they don't have anything to cover up, they should quit acting as though they do.

Is there anywhere in this country that you can do anything and not be caught on videotape now? Not that I'm worried about showing up doing something illegal, but it boggles my mind that someone would be sitting around having nothing better to do than film yet another jet taking off from JFK.

Check the private quarters of Hillary. You know, on the mantle, where they found the missing FBI files. Her fingerprints will be all over the x-rays too.

Don't worry, I know better than to hold my breath. Moreover, if some judge somewhere eventually orders the tapes unsealed, I fully expect to hear about a mysterious fire that somehow consumed all the sealed evidence.

Well, I agree I don't see any true evidence that proves a coverup, but there are several suspicious things going on here...and this WOULD help to save the airline industry if it was just an accident. Since when have airlines gone bankrupt due to a few crashes? If, on the other hand, it is terrorism, people would stop flying possibly. there are some thing pointing to a tail problem...teh clean cut etc...and nothing so mangled that makes it look like a bomb. But, at the same time, the govt. is acting weird. What happened to the reports of an explosion..this is like TWA 800. Who knows what is going on.

I still haven't seen anybody make a convincing case for the reasoning behind a coverup.

Thousands of layoffs occurred as a result of 9/11 in the airline industry with several carriers going under. Another successful terrorist attack on a US plane would lead to more layoffs and more failures.

The destruction of the airline industry would impact buisness at all levels and thrpw the US economy into a tailspin of its' own.

IF the Fedgov is hiding evidence of a bombing, they are protecting the US economy.

If anything is held back about this crash, it probably means your friends from al-Qaida were somehow involved. You know they are taking credit. From a probability standpoint it is hard to believe anything but terrorism.

It is good to be positive and vigilant, but folks they probably ain't done yet.
