Reagan... Would that we had him back. He's the only president I could trust and support in the last 25 years.
He passed this country the ball, and we dropped it.

Thank you for the ping JohnHuang2.
I imagine Ms. Noonan did some of her research at the Reagan Presidential Library.
It is a beautiful place up on a hill and close enough to the equally beautiful Nixon Presidential Library, to see them both.
I look forward to reading Ms. Noonan's book When Character Was King.

I held voluntary popsitions in all three of Reagan's campaigns, including coordinating five Congressional districts. I am very much offended at WorldNetDailey.Com exploiting President Reagan's name for commercial purposes.
This is the same site that publishes the press releases of Larry Klayman as news articles. They should be run out of the country.

Ronald Reagan was my political guru. I became a Republican to vote for him. To me he is THE GREATEST President of my lifetime.

"When Character was King" sounds like a very enjoyable read. I'm looking forward to it.
Miss Noonan has a beautiful style of writing, almost poetic, and she also loves and admires President Reagan.

One of my favorite Bible verses is Psalm 118:8:
It is better to trust in the Lord, then to put confidence in man.
So, as you can imagine, hero-worship is not really my bag...
But Dutch Reagan is the greatest American of our generation...his accomplishments are monumental.
Peggy Noonan is a national treasure as well, IMHO.
What a team they were, in the arena of political communication!! They changed the world for the better by doggedly, over the space of many years, speaking the truth with love and wisdom and by having the courage to use the gifts God had given them in the service of America and of mankind.
May we be blessed as a nation to have tens of thousands in the days ahead with the foresight and commitment to follow their example...Americans who, like Reagan and Noonan before them, hew to principle until the day comes when Truth triumphs, as it always does.

I am almost finished with Deaver's book about Reagan, "A Different Drummer," actually I'm listening to it on tape. Mr. Deaver reads it and does a beautiful job. Sometimes I when I reach my destination I sit in the car a little longer, loath to leave my "book." The book is basically a compilation of annecdotes about Reagan and some of Deaver's comments that stand out:
Reagan was incapable of telling a lie.
Reagan treated everyone the same, from the Queen of England to the truck driver.
Reagan read constantly, from briefing papers to books, he was always reading.
Reagan was incredibly shy.
Reagan was also incredibly disciplined.
Reagan always did what he thought was right and could be downright stubborn about some things.
Reagan was not a detail man, he was a big picture man (something I think is an excellent quality in a President).
Needless to say, once I finish this book (and it won't be long), I'll be hot on the trail of Ms Noonan's book.

"He never subordinated his principles for the sake of self-glorification."
God Bless Ronald Reagan!

Thanks for the ping, Mud. God bless Peggy Noonan. She is one courageous and talented lady.
Charlton Heston talks about how tough Ronald Reagan was as president of the Screen Actors' Guild. When the Union reps. brought their complaints to the table the negotiations would sometimes last into the early morning hours. The Union rep would make demand after demand....then Ronald Reagan would say, "I understand. Now here's what we're going to do..." Charlton Heston was awed by Reagan's patience and determination....and endurance. (^:

That last part brought tears to my eyes.
My copy of the book arrived yesterday (it's a Christmas gift for my mom, so I will have to wait a couple of months for my mom to finish it before I can read it).
