An interesting question. However, since we know that the two planes that hit their targets were part of a group of at least 6, and more than likely as many as 9, can't one assume that God was protecting the nation that day?

We are in no position to know God's thoughts. On the other hand, I think we need to give Him thanks for protecting us from the bigger evil that was planned for us.

God allowed WWII to happen, but he saw to it that we won. The weather clearing at the last minute making D-Day possible, the fog lifted in the Ardennes allowing air support for our guys at the most critical time in the attack. Development of the A-Bomb just in time to save us from having to invade Japan. All of this was God's protection, IMHO.

While I believe that God uses evil people to punish nations, I firmly believe that any discussion of what God allowed to happen, needs to also look at what He kept from happening. Personally, I thank Him every day for stopping the bulk of the 9-11 attack.

Let's see, hmmmmmmmmm. Why does GOD allow children to die from cancers ? Ehy does GOD allow drunk drivers to kill so many others ? Why did GOD allow Clinton to be elected TWICE, be IMPEACHED but not convicted, and stillenjoy some kind of attention ? Why did GOD allow Hitler to kil so many people ? Ditto for Stalin, Pol Pot, and every other tryrant / dictator ? Why did GOD allow WW1, WW2, Vietnam, the Civil War, the War of the Roses, the 100 years War, the 30 Years War, and that's just for starters.

I know that many here, and other places love to claim that it is beause we somehow are ALL bad, horrible people, who don't pray and / or love GOD . If GOD woud have saved Sodom, if 10 or less GOOD people could be found, then WHY , when there are SO many GOD fearing, and GOD loving people in the USA, would HE have abandoned us on 9 / 11 /01 ?

Our moral and cultural decay has weakened us and made us more vulnerable in my view but I don't ascribe to all of this as punishment from God or God "allowing" this to happen. No, it's much simpler than all that....it's just the work of man. Mankind's history is littered with violence punctuated by blips of "peace"....it's just the way it's always been...since Cain and Able...metaphorically or not.

Realism tempered by a God derived idealism has served me well since I grew up...I'm 44 now...so that was about say 8 years ago!!
