- Jailed Aid Workers May Be Released (10:01 a.m. PST Nov. 14)
- VIENNA, Austria -- Eight foreign aid workers held in Afghanistan on charges of preaching Christianity have an unusual new ally: Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's son, who said Wednesday he's confident they will be released soon.

Actually, we may be seeing the de facto partition of Afghanistan right now. The pushtans that revolted against the Taliban are warning the NA out of the south. Why do we insist on united control of a country that has no reason to exist. This should be out-of-the-box thinking time.
And, it is in our long term interest to keep two reasonably hostile factions in that part of the world. Any slippage on terrorism issues on the part of on could lead to a US assisted invasion by the other.
Another advantage to de facto splitting of Afghanistan is that it gives a reward to Pakistan for its assistance--they get some strategic depth in their rear against India and a buffer between them and the NA, whom they do not like.
It seems to me that things are starting to sort out pretty well, if we just leave well enough alone. The only message to the remaining two governments would be--no terrorists and stay in your part of town.

Hey, funny thing how I haven't heard from Seymour Hersh lately! I wonder what happened to those crack Taliban troops that scared the crap out of our measly Delta Force! I guess they're just waiting for the right moment to annhiliate us
[/sarcasm]
Hersh is a has-been, and the New Yorker looks more pathetic than ever.

would you trust any of these guys with a razor to your throat?

Why, thank you. Profiling addicted behavior/sociopaths isn't that difficult. And binnie allegedly has an enlarged heart and bad kidneys. Now I am not a medical person but medically, heavy drugs can't be good for us.

There's a new Sherrif in town named G. W. Bush, and rouge (sic) nations are on notice that to mess with America is a losing proposition. They're going to be mighty upset to hear that in Gay Paris!

- Anti-Taliban Forces Take Jalalabad (10:11 a.m. PST Nov. 14)
- KABUL, Afghanistan -- The northern alliance moved Wednesday to consolidate its grip on Kabul, taking over key posts and ministries despite a pledge to support a broad-based government. Anti-Taliban forces took control of the eastern city of Jalalabad and the airport outside the Taliban stronghold of Kandahar, according to U.S. and Afghan sources

bin laden is totally disillusional like Hitler for one. I think he wanted to be the next Hitler. Well, he was definitely on his way.

"de facto splitting of Afghanistan "Nah. We do not want to split up their country. It does have the right to exist. If Afghanistan were to split up by The Great Satan, we'll only see more terrorism, rather than less.

Afghans in the Taliban stronghold of Kandahar walk past music stores which are reappearing after an absence of more than five years. As the offices of the Taliban's religious police were bombed in U.S-led raids recently, shops have sprung up in the center of the city with merchants scrambling to satisfy a long pent-up desire for music which, under Taliban rule, was punishable by a public lashing for those found in possession of music. The hardline Islamic rule of Afghanistan's Taliban unraveled on November 14, 2001, as diplomats scrambled to establish a new government and restore stability to a weary nation wounded by two decades of civil war. This Reuters graphic updates territorial gains made by Northern Alliance and U.S. led forces in their war against the Taliban, amid added reports that Kandahar had also been taken by the U.S.-Northern Alliance coalition. Kandahar Falls ! My initial thought was another fight for water...
Your news is much better!

"According to some reports the hostages have been released already." That would be very good, because the alternative -- the talis hauling them into the caves -- would be very bad.

... although it is amusing that they cannot even update their maps fast enough -- I would say just about the whole country is taken at this point. All that is left is to smoke out the caves.

Soon you will be able to enjoy Niagra Falls even better knowing that we will have thwarted the attackers of all that is great and wonderful in America (and Canada).

****They dug up their radios and tvs from their backyards.**** AND their kalishnakovs. Will they let us stay? It depends upon the meaning of the word "kalishnakovs." I don't speak Afghani. I think we have special ops all over the place but I saw them yesterday on tv for the first time since this all began. Our guys are blending in at the moment and they have done a great job. I'm sure they know what kalishnakovs are.
