44 Firefighting units have been dispatched... it was a Airbus A-300... and it was OUTBOUND to Santo Domingo....

No it doesn't. It just means that the engine came off before the plane crashed.
Re: Bomb theories. I would think it difficult to plant a timed bomb because with airport delays and all you wouldn't know when it would go off. So I would discount that possibility. Maybe a radio detonator but I don't know about ranges. Right now I would guess that it is unrelated to terrorism simply because no other planes have gone down yet. OBL tends to work in rushes.

According to http://www.newsday.com/news/nationworld/ One eye witness says debris was falling from the sky. That sounds like they may have had an on-board bomb. If an engine blew it would scatter a bunch of debris and could very easily appear to have been hit by a missile.
Rudy said there are TWO crash sites....one where the engine landed...and one where the plane crashed.

Loud popping noise?....immediate nosedive thereafter?...this was a bomb. When are they gonna wise up and protect these flights??

Report said flash was in area which contains baggage. What is the obvious conclusion?

Just an isolated incident.
Nothing to see here people, move along.
And sadly, if the one eyewitness report is correct about an explosion at the "armpit", that would lend credence to a terr attack via something in the luggage compartment.
Sorry, I speculated without a lisence.

A FOX eyewitness said parts of the plane were falling before it hit. Does this sound like an explosion?

I have no problem getting thru to my friends in Queens. Telephone lines are working fine. New York City phone lines in Manhattan are fine. I just got thru to 3 people in Manhattan. This is not a lockdown (thank god). They said 12 buildings are on fire too. The Tunnels are all closed.

A caller named "Anthony" at WABC 770 reports there were two military jets in the area at the time of the crash. He says he was in the terminal and saw the whole thing.
WABC cautions that this is an unconfirmed report from somebody who called into them, and may not be true.

07:09 PST NEW YORK (AP) --
An American Airlines flight that had just taken off for the Dominican Republic crashed Monday, and buildings reportedly were on fire in the Queens section of New York City.
Flight 587, an Airbus A300 that can hold 275 passengers, crashed shortly after 9 a.m. and thick, black smoke could be seen miles away. There was no report of the number of casualties, either on the plane or on the ground.
Thick, black smoke could be seen miles away from the crash in the Rockaways section of Queens.
The crash came two months after the attack on the World Trade Center, which was destroyed by two Boeing 767s hijacked out of Boston's Logan Airport. One of the planes was operated by American, the other by United.
Bill Schumann of the Federal Aviation Administration said there was no immediate indication of what caused the crash. He said the plane crashed about five miles from Kennedy Airport.
All metro area airports -- Kennedy, LaGuardia and Newark -- were closed following the crash, in Rockaway, Queens. The Office of Emergency Management said all bridges and tunnels in the city were closed except to emergency vehicles.
Planes were being diverted, and Delta Air Lines spokeswoman Peggy Estes said the airline was working to account for all its planes.
The mayor canceled his morning events and headed to the scene.
One eyewitness reported debris falling from sky, and told the Fox News Channel four homes were on fire.
Another told CNN he was 40 blocks away and saw "just a lot of smoke. Tons and tons of smoke. You can see emergency vehicles heading to the area. Lots of people are standing in the streets. It's very tense."

I work inan airline dispatch office and our maintenence personel and the dispatchers here are speculating on catastrophic engine failure taking the hydraulics with it.Pray for our people and the ones on the plane, and pray it was an accident.

You're right. It's good to KNOW the FACTS. About increasing your fiber intake. Do so and drop back later when things are KNOWN; don't torture yourself.

Don't lose sleep. I've flown in many of these type of planes and most have triple or greater redundancy to insure a safer flight. This does look too suspicious for me to hang it on mechanical failure at this point in time, IMHO.

I had a vision on the way to work this morning of a UFO using a laser to blast the wing off of a plane. It occurred over a large metropolitan area on the eastern coast of a medium-sized continent. Do you think this has significance, you absolutely pompous a$$hole?
