"Explosion? possibly a missle attack?" A missile hitting a wing mounted engine would have ignited the fuel tanks in the wing and destroyed the aircraft in the air.
So far, eyewitness accounts say that the plane did not explode in mid-air.

That was me. Looking at a map I think its entirely plausible. If the plane was taking off, and crashed where they are saying it did, it would have crossed this marshy area.

Cannot get telephone line to NYC for love or money. The hysteria is actually kind of comical. I can imagine the conversations. Ummmm hi there, you're such a good pal, but did you book a trip to the Caribbean without telling me? Oh wait, if you're talking to me, I guess not.

NBC reporting the FAA was aware the plane was having some kind of difficulty; Combat Air Patrols in area reported no incidents and were not notified of any problems.
255 passengers and crew listed on manifest. This is almost as many as were killed on all four planes on 9/11. Horrible!!!

Here is one thing we do know....it could take months to find out if there was a bomb or mechanical failure and this event will most certainly scare the American public. NBC has Dr. Peter Arnott ,on who is a pilot, talking about the approach. Says it had to be utterly catastrophic for it to come down this quickly.

FOXNEWS reporting plane on takeoff from JFK....All NY airports closed as a precaution....Witness reports over phone to FOX that "heard loud noise from above"(while plane was still in sky) and "debris was falling from the sky."

What does this mean? If she actually saw what she said she saw, it means that there will be a wing someplace on the ground, at the "other" debris location. If there's a wing, it ought to show the signs of whatever caused it to fall off.
