Some 'witness' reported that the engine came off and the aircraft veered over. (Could be BS) <p. Midtown tunnel and Lincoln tunnel closed.

Lawdude is right!. Stop the rumors. We KNOW nothing other than A/C down. We will not KNOW anything for hours, days or even months. Wait. Listen. Learn. Evaluate Decide. Act. Never act before other steps. No not assign this to terrorist activity until we KNOW it is. There will be 10,000 rumors. Ignore them, show your intellect, until we all KNOW the FACTS.

06:50 PST NEW YORK (AP) --
An American Airlines Airbus A300 crashed Monday morning in the Queens section of New York, and buildings reportedly were on fire in the neighborhood.
The plane crashed shortly after 9 a.m. and thick, black smoke could be seen miles away.
All metro area airports were closed following the crash, in the Rockaways section of Queens.
The mayor canceled his morning events and headed to the scene.
One eyewitness reported debris falling from sky, and told the Fox News Channel four homes were on fire.
Another told CNN he was 40 blocks away and saw "Just a lot of smoke. Tons and tons of smoke. You can see emergency vehicles heading to area. Lots of people are standing in the streets. It's very tense."
The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
The crash came two months after the attack on the World Trade Center, which was destroyed by two Boeing 767s hijacked out of Boston's Logan Airport. One of the planes was operated by American, the other by United.

Helicopter in the air when this happened....no clouds in the sky. That helo pilot should have seen everything. Pentagon is saying there was NO CALL from it's fighers in area.

An eyewitness walking her dog reports on 770 WABC Radio that there was a flash on the right side of the plane at the wing root where the wing meets the fusalage. The plane just seemed to drop straight down. She also reports that there was a helicopter very close to the plane while it crashed. She reports that her husband thought the helicopter shot the plane down! But she doesn't think so. She didn't see any military jets around.

Giuliani live on WINS Radio, NY: There are apparently two crash sites, one where the engine hit, one where the rest of the plane hit.
Another eyewitness account from a female resident of Bell Harbor, Rockaway: Plane suddenly exploded in the air.

CNN - FAA statement, NO TERRORIST ATTACK.

So there ought to be TWO impact sites yes? The smaller plane could be the 'debris' falling. Nothing left but small pieces.

It was an Airbus 300 (appx. 200 passengers/max) .... it was departing ... at least according to radio CNN.
To: lawdude
The chances of it being terrorist driven are slimI'm not a tin foil hat type, but considering it's Veteran's Day, that's pretty coincidental evidence that it could be terrorists.

Remember the DC-10 in O'Hare about 20 years ago. It lost an engine and lost control because of the resulting wieght imbalance between the wings. The roll of the aircraft was due to the loss of hydraulics when the engine separated, causing retraction of the slats on one wing but not the other, thus the uncontrolled roll. Had the slats not retracted the pilot should have been able to maintain controlled flight of the aircraft.

Prayers go out for the victims and their families.
Too bad all the partisan politicians (e.g., hillary and bill) were just beginning to come out of the woodwork, and going back to business-as-usual. When will these scumbags realize we're at war?

We need to see the radar records and look for a small, fast blip coming from Jamaica Bay (someone above mentioned this a a good place to fire a Stinger from--lots of marsh and tall reeds. I agree.)
