This speech is as strong as you can go with the U.N. They have now been publicly chastised by Bush for "playing games" for putting a human rights abuser in a position of acceptance.

Watching Bush operate - he deals on the positive and encourages more positive action - which is a very effective managment tool. We have seen how he ignores the actions he finds despicable (all things Clinton) and, instead, turns the attention to positive actions.

This was very apparent this week while Clinton was out with a speech picturing America as also involved in terrorism and no better than the worst terrorists in other countries, Bush comes out with the speech to Americans on how wonderful this country is, how patriotic, how they have done wonderful things for others during this crisis, how our goal is to make this country safe from terrorism for our children and grandchildren. Bush gives us leadership to bring out the best in America. Bush takes us back to the years of strong American values, honor, dignity, love of country - not the trashiness of corruption, spin, manipulations of the truth for personal gain and the desire to cast America as the offender of all in the world.

Bush is the heartland and is like us. Clinton and those that honor and worship him feel they are the elitist intelligent, sophisticated in our midst. We identify with Bush and his values rather than those of the Clinton regime.

I didn't see him deliver his speech, but from reading the transcript I get the picture of an American President who has somehow forgotten that the gang of penniless beggars he's addressing should be on their knees groveling in hopes that we don't take notice of them.

His worshippers can call his speech an exercise in diplomacy. I saw it as a waste of his time and my money.

Show me where he said anything close to "shove it" to the UN. He sounds more like he's about to ask them for a favor. I'm really looking forward to seeing how you republicans are going to rush to GW's defense when he gets around to either merging the two parties or switching his registration. The way he acts, he could announce either one at any minute.

Ya know Twodees -- my fellow Freeper -- I simply asked you way back in this thread to explain your opinion on what Bush said. Your responses since have been unsubstantiated personal attacks. Now in your latest to me, your posted record shows that in your second sentence you wonder if my screen name is really a misspelled "free rein". Then in your third sentence you are sure that my screen name is really a misspelled "free rein" and you assume this personal charge without even checking the source or producing any evidence. Do you form all of your opinions this way?

Yes, I do understand the difference. It's so nice that you do too. I'm just enjoying my time on earth, chuckling at people who forget that politicians are our employees rather than our leaders or rulers.

You asked me a question. That doesn't mean that I have to answer you. Sometimes I simply like to read the frustrated responses from people who take themselves too seriously.

Do you think that we have a President who speaks in parables requiring interpretation? If we do, we'd better get a new one right away.

You can argue all you want on what principles Bush should have said the UN was founded on -- I will applaud that Bush clearly leaves out praise for what the UN is today.

But read Dan from Michigan stated about the founding of the United Nations (and Dan is a good Republican patriot!!)...and you'll see exactly what the President DIDN'T say about the founding of the United Nations...as long as we're examining facts AND subtext all over the place here!

It's obvious that the source of the cult of celebrity which attends politicians is the news media. Uncritical acceptance of that celebrity status is a dangerous thing. More people questioning that status would be nice to see.
