Here is a link from the original thread that was posted on October 19th. The site is owned by an air traffic controller in Gander, Newfoundland by the name of Ken Arsenault and has some photos of the scene on the 11th of September. Also are links to passengers on the various flights and their stories. Some of the photos are very large, so patience is required for them to load.

I'm quite certain that my family passed through the Gander airport several times in the late 1960's. My grandmother lived in southern Germany and we were traveling back and forth to visit her. As I recall it, the cheapest way to get from New York to Europe back then was on Icelandic Airlines. The plane stopped at Gander, then Reykjavik, with its final destination in Luxembourg. The planes were usually full of young students.

Nice, heartwarming story!

Does anyone have any thoughts as to why a C-5 would be one of the planes diverted? It is the plane at the lower right just short of the threshold.

Just wondering.
