Thanks.
My father was with the Marines when they made their march to the Chosin and he made it out. He went to college and got his commission in the Air Force and retired from there after twenty-one years. There will be a Marine Honor Guard at his funeral, both seen and unseen. I don't look forward to that day, but it's coming.
Can't write anymore for now, have to go wipe my eyes.

Damn you SLB...
I avoid these threads like the plague. My 10 years in mean nothing to anyone else, but they're the best 10 years of my life, and I've got several decades to compare 'em to.
At least this time, I know I don't need to reach for the Nitro for the pain in my chest...

Gosh, that was a tear jerker. Thanks.

I did honor detail in the short time I spent in the states in 1967, where they presented awards to the parents of troopers who were KIA.
It still rips my heart out when I think of it, it brings tears to my eyes to think that the Marines still do it right.

A detail I could never do. Taps being played at a funeral is only slightly less haunting than the bagpipes and rends my heart and moistens my eyes in a manner that could not be allowed for such a detail.
I think of all I have and all I could do because of those who gave their all for America.
To the veterans, one and all, thank you for your service, your lives, our freedom.
NEVER FORGET!

Thanks for the ping. Hubby was the I&I when we got married. Did funerals all the time. Taps really gets me tearful. Dad had a military funeral.

Thanks for the post SLB. I was already going to the cemetary on Sunday but now it'll be different.

Although I'm well into my mid-40's, I've only been to one funeral in my life.
It was my father's, back in '84; a 20-year AF veteran.
He had full military honors, and I hung in there through the whole thing pretty well...........until they played "Taps". That did it.
To: SLB
Thank you.
To: SLB
Thank you, Sir. They're all the same, and yet they're all different - all necessary.
Whenever it's time for mine, as that last note of "Taps" slowly fades away (and it always does just fade away, ya know?), I want another bugler to break into "Revelie". If you're there, remember to smile through any tears.
