=====================================
BRADY E-ACTION RESPONSE NETWORK ALERT
=====================================

Issue: 17 - 11/8/2001

November 8, 2001

Dear Friends,

Regretfully, I must report to you that in the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks on America, we have been forced to make significant cut backs in our programs, threatening our ability to fight for a safer America.

As I'm sure you know, fundraising for just about every non-profit organization in the country has been seriously crippled as donors nationwide have mourned the loss of more than 6,000 precious lives and have rightly focused on helping the victims of the tragedy.

The Brady Campaign and Brady Center have not been exempt from this sharp downturn in contributions from the public. Consequently, our ability to meet the challenges before us has been severely curtailed. We desperately need your help now more than ever. Fortunately for us and for America, your gift can be worth 50 percent more, if given within the next 30 days.

A generous donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, has issued a challenge to our members and supporters. For every dollar contributed, up to $200,000 in the next 30 days, a 50 percent match will be made. For example, a gift of $50 will be worth $75 with our donor's gift. Through this matching gift, your donation is worth more than ever. Please help us take advantage of this opportunity at this critical time when so much is at stake for our country.

Go to http://www.bradycampaign.org/donate today and make your gift worth even more!

There is compelling evidence that terrorists are stockpiling high-powered weapons and ammunition obtained from unregulated gun markets in this country, such as gun shows. These weapons can be used against Americans here at home, smuggled abroad and resold at a profit to buy materials for mass destruction.

In fact, the day before terrorist pilots were committing suicide by crashing jetliners into American buildings, Ali Boumelhem was being convicted in a Detroit courtroom of conspiring to illegally ship shotguns, assault weapons, ammunition and other items bought at Michigan gun shows to Hezbollah terrorists in Lebanon.

This is why the Brady Campaign is aggressively pushing for new legislation to add three gun safety measures to anti-terrorist efforts being undertaken by Congress and the Justice Department.

Gun Safety Measure #1: Comprehensive criminal background checks for absolutely all gun purchases, whether they are made at licensed gun dealers, gun shows, flea markets or through classified ads.

Gun Safety Measure #2: Permanent retention of all firearm sales records to ensure that law-enforcement officials can track terrorists, trace their weapons, and know what threats they are facing when they attempt to apprehend these criminals.

Gun Safety Measure #3: Increase identity verification by requiring two forms of valid I.D. and proof of residency.

This is our immediate agenda, and I must tell you that that our financial shortfall is seriously jeopardizing our ability to meet this challenge. In fact, as a part of our forced downsizing and restructuring, we have been forced to lay off approximately 20 percent of our staff.

Meanwhile, the National Rifle Association, with its deep pockets, continues to try to exploit the September terrorist attacks as a reason to buy more guns. But, we cannot let the gun lobby win the day.

Please go to http://www.bradycampaign.org/donate now and give the most generous contribution you possibly can.

We cannot let the terrorists intimidate us, nor let the NRA and the gun industry win. We must move forward. And to do that, we are dependent upon you and all of our members and supporters. Thank you for your helping during these difficult times.

Warm Regards,

Sarah Brady
Chair

Funny. The last gun show I went to this past weekend didn't have a single terrorist there that I could see. And if they were, they would have been mowed down where they stood. Actually it was a bunch of individuals and common people who believed in protecting themselves from this "onslaught" of terrorists that the Brady Bunch warn us about. Too bad for the MMM. 911 only increased the sales at the show. I should know as the parking lot was so overflowing after 1 hour, I had to park 2 miles away and hike it to the show. Glad I didn't have to carry anything heavy, like the TOW missle or .50 Browning I wanted to buy but couldn't. I'm glad these jerks are going away. Too bad they can't take the Klintoon Klan with them.

As soon as I read this, I knew the rest was ONE BIG LIE. Say what you will about US citizens, but they are, so very many, the MOST giving and generous people on the face of the earth.

"You would not own your Glock now if not for the efforts of the NRA defending your constitutional rights. Please join us, the members of the National Rifle Association. You'll be in good company. The monthly magazine alone is worth the price of membership. Please join now and stand united with us. http://www.nra.org/

Worth repeating.

P.S. - What is a "low-powered" weapon?

A large plastic straw and a supply of dried peas. A literal "pea shooter". They used to sell those in the five and dime, which in my part of the world was known not inappropriately as "Ben Franklin's".

"ONE BIG LIE"

What else would you expect from brady?

Oct 2, 2001 http://www.usnewswire.com/topnews/Current_Releases/1002-138.html

"Americans who contribute to the John Lennon Tribute benefit concert in the belief they are supporting relief organizations that responded to the World Trade Center Attack could find their donations going instead to the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, Million Mom March and Violence Policy Center.

The concert, initially set for Sept. 20, was re-scheduled for broadcast tonight on TNT. Originally intended to benefit the three anti-gun groups, the scope was expanded to include the American Red Cross, International Association of Fire Fighters, September 11th Fund, New York Fraternal Order of Police WTC Fund, National Organization for Victim Assistance and the Twin Towers Fund. Now, according to a Brady Center press release "a portion" of the proceeds will be divided among those organizations. Exactly what percentage was not disclosed."

Funny. The last gun show I went to this past weekend didn't have a single terrorist there that I could see.

The one I went to last weekend in San Antonio did have one brave soul in a turban and full beard. The style of the turban indicated he was most likely a Sikh, although he was kind of thin for Sikh. One brave soul, I don't think I'd be going to a gun show if I had dark skin, a full beard and wearing a turban. Far as I could tell, nobody was giving him any grief, but I bet folks were watching him real close. Startled me it did, until I took a second look at the turban.

RE:although he was kind of thin for Sikh.

Most Sikh's I know tend towards being thin.
Sikh's are the good guys. Their turbans tend to be neater.

Now that's gutsy. Here in the Tampa area, the local "Middle Eastern" students are keeping a lower profile after O'Reilly exposed there terrorist professor at the University of South Florida and they were exposed by a local radio station for having parties the night of 9-11 celebrating their "victory". So I doubt seriously any of them would have the hutspa to show up at a gun show. Nor should any of them question why middle America, including the self-professed liberals are now re-arming at an incredible rate. One of my friends is a gun dealer and he said his shop is going to have a record year in sales just because of the last quarter of the year. So much for HCI and MMM. It's going to be damned hard to for anyone to disarm this nation now. And if I lived along either border I would be redoubling my armaments as we speak.

Send them checks for 1 cent. The cost of processing them is way more than the check is worth.

If we all sent them checks for 1 cent that would speed their demise.
