As a Washington state resident who several years ago while working a short term job in Californica got a nasty, expensive ticket (eventually thrown out after two years) for not having a california drivers lisence even though I had a valid, current Washington State one at the time and had no desire to change my residency and was only there for a couple months.
This is as laughable as accepting Canadian Immigration's endorsement of immigrants.

Illegal immigrants are often detained, and sometimes deported, when stopped for offenses such as jaywalking or driving through a red light.

I fail to see what is wrong with this policy, after all, they are illeagal immigrants right? All illegals should be deported asap.

"...available to Mexican nationals who are in the United States either legally or illegally..."
====================================================

What is it about a person's Race or Nationality that gives them the 'Right' to break the laws of this Nation....?

As most Freepers know, Orange County, which used to be a bastion of conservatism, is now a congressional swing district leaning toward the Democrats, mainly because of voting by illegal immigrants. Ask Bob Dornan and Loretta Sanchez.

Presumably this police chief is a Democratic appointee, who has been tasked with ensuring that the Democrats will win the district again in 2002 with the help of illegal motor voters.

Santa Ana's schools are easily filled with 85% illegal aliens. Take that number by $10,000 each to educate and you have a ton of wasted money.

You would all but evacuate Santa Ana if you expelled illegals from the city.
You would also eliminate most of the crime in that area there and in near by areas.

These illegals are NOT HOLY. Why can't we kick them the heck out of the country and make them re-apply legally like all others do?

Actually they're deported for being ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS, you nitwit.

How dependable is the process by which the Mexican government hands out these cards? How hard would it be for an Algerian national who'd just flown in to Mexico to get one? We already know that Middle Easterners are entering the US from Mexico.

This is a national security issue, and these idiot police chiefs are on the wrong side!

With all due respect to everyone that has posted to this info, I understand everyone's desire to rationally discuss this issue. However, I hope everyone understands my opinion regarding the Orange County Policea El Chieftains Association decision to ignore immigration laws in a BIASED manner (favorable to illegal mexicans) as a TOTAL LOAD OF BU!!SHI+ and should be responded to as such.  For example...

Terry Francke, counsel (lawyer) for the California First Amendment Coalition, (too bad they don't have a California SECOND Amendment Collation) said the association is exempt from state open-meeting laws. He said the group is not a government body, even though it may effectively set public policy.

HUH?

It MUST be something in the water over there, and it was probably dumped back in the `60's.

Soooooo, okay.

I sent them a toasty little email, special thoughts and all, right to the source....   mailto:sac@ocsd.org

Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona said as he left the meeting at the Santa Ana Police Department that he has the authority to implement the policy without action by the Board of Supervisors.

Our friend, the Sheriff.  He hangs out here..  http://www.ocsd.org/

And the Advisory Counsel...

Sheriff’s Advisory Council

President
Ken E. Steelman

First Vice President
Michael Wayne

Second Vice President
David R. White II

Treasurer
Kae A. Ewing

Legal Counsel
Joseph D. Carruth

Just so no one feels left out....  mailto:sac@ocsd.org
