Because she's Chelsea Clinton, supergirl! And thanks for the phone info -- it looks like she's caught in another lie. I'll bet there are literally millions of New Yorkers who witnessed more firsthand that day, and who have more interesting stories to tell. Yet who gets four pages in Talk magazine -- somebody who was in absolutely no danger, and who thought about the Bush tax cut when thousands were dying!
To be perfectly honest, when I was running from the first collapsing tower and the debris cloud, and then when a plane was buzzing over us and we thought it was going to take out the bridges next to us (turned out to be our F-16s), the LAST thing on mind was even who the President was! I just wanted to live.
She wasn't in danger, so she decided to try and place herself in danger -- or at least in camera range. I bet that if she managed to get on TV while she was making her way *toward* the WTC, she would have claimed that she was there and trying to leave.
If Chelsea couldn't get long-distance on the apartment phone, it was useless to try from the street. And not much of an emergency anyway, if she'd already reached her mom's assistant. Surely Hillary's office has caller ID and they could see she was calling from the place she'd been staying. Daughter safe. Try again later.
I wouldn't mind Chelsea saying she was "irresistably drawn" toward the scene (though it's the last thing I would have done), but just don't insult my intelligence by claiming to be looking for a phone that worked. It's nonsense.
