With the immigration policies in the US and Canada which allow anyone from any religion to claim refugee staus we have our doors open to self destruction. Bring in 10 million Muslims in 10 years, settle them throughout the US and Canada.
Now whom do you nuke without killing ourselves? Find me ONE politician who will be reelected and has the cajones to stand up and say "All Muslims Must Be Removed From the US. This includes American citizens who are Muslims.

Joe Sobran bump. I do think what he's saying about the West and its future is worthy of our attention.

Does nuclear threat as a deterrence impact the Muslim world?
To: pocat
This situation is why we have no business in thinking we can control the world. If this nation would have stuck to our own business instead of allowing the elites to run it we could care less about Afganistan. But since we are not allowed to be self sufficient we are surrounded by these problems. This won't go away either. After the oil pipeline who will maintain it? So this region will be divided up amongst the powers. And the perpitrators will be hated all the more. The breadbasket of terrorism is Iran. Do you think for one moment that we will do anything to that country?? Absolutly not. Ergo your so-called war is a farce. BTW I give GW credit on the way he is undertaking it with the least amount of "collateral damage" ie. your sons & daughters in combat.

Unlike the Christian West, the Muslim world has never had crises of faith like the Reformation and the Enlightenment. Oh really?
And this goofball presents himself as a knowledgeable expert?
I can hardly wait to hear his explanation for the 3 main mutually-hostile flavors of Islam and the dozen or so minor offshoots.
Kinda clouds his credibility, ya think?
To: Digger
Exactly. For too long, we have not listened to George Wahington's warnings of "foreign entanglements."

Exactly. For too long, we have not listened to George Wahington's warnings of "foreign entanglements." When I was young and ignorant, I tended to agree with this simplistic statement.
Then I realized than in Washington's day, there were no satellites, no transatlantic cables, no OPEC, no NATO, no internet, no GAT, no NAFTA, no television, no cell phones.
How does one pull up the drawbridge 200 years after the drawbridge became an anachronism?
As the Muslim Mass Murderers showed us, we don't need to go to them, they will come to us.
Or are you suggesting we not allow air travel between the U.S. and anywhere else?

"When I was young and ignorant, I tended to agree with this simplistic statement. Then I realized than in Washington's day, there were no satellites, no transatlantic cables, no OPEC, no NATO, no internet, no GAT, no NAFTA, no television, no cell phones. "Please no Clinton spin. Those things you mentioned would be OK with George. George, on the other hand, would not be into Clinton bombing countries where we didn't like the leader, or setting up puppet governments that prevent local democracy, or making relationships that would involve us in wars of other's choosing.
Nah, GW is still right. We are on the verge of a 3-front struggle with the Arabs, Chinese and Russians all on a 1-war economic system. Build fortress America, cut our losses, and let the world fight their own wars, religious, economic, ethnic, or political. Get bin Laden, then over and out for good.

Many liberals use your argument about "changing times" since our founding. Do "arms" in the 2nd amdendment only refer to muskets? The founders never envisioned our modern weaponry. Does freedom of the "press" only refer to the hand operated printers of Franklin's time? Ol' Ben would be amazed at our electronic media, but I'm sure he would still hold his "isolationist" (not a bad word) views.
What you need to realize is that technology changes, but human nature does not. Non-intervention is not a bad thing - it's a much better alternative to the mess we're in now - and I have been saying that long before 9-11.

Wouldn't it be cool if Free Republic still were the sort of place one could discuss Belloc's essay without having it pulled by the Hall Monitors because the usual morons -- free to post with impunity and wreck threads time and time again -- show up and spew their usual hateful and utterly unsupportable nonsense.
Someone here's got the link. (Where did I hide it, Romulus?)

Never mind the terrorists; check the birthrates. Yeah, Iraq, with it's high birthrate, really kicked our butts in the Gulf War. Sobran needs to venture out of the 19th Century when he performs military analysis...

>>Tell me how Islam gets past our nukes?<<
Read the article.
European women are having 0.8 children, and the European population will fall by 50% in 100 years. White American women are having less than replacement #s of children, and the third world US population is rising while the Euro-American population is falling.
Moslem women in the US and Europe are having 5 children/woman.
It isn't about the nukes, silly-it's about the babies.
To: pocat
I just don't expect the Northern Alliance to become our "good muslim" ally for a long period of time. The Northern Alliance is supported by Iran.
IMHO.. Iran is THE country to watch in the Middle East.

all the clever philosophy on this thread, and not a mention of the obvious that Islam's failure to include half of the human race as anything but property dooms them to follow the downward path that they have been on since the Middle Ages. Without the serendipitous presence of oil, and the western inventiveness that made it a valuable commodity, the Moslem world would be as forgotten as it was in Belloc's time.

Iraq laid down. Saddam and the rest do as their told. Oh, c'mon, Chris, you can do better than that. A million men with obsolete weaponry simply cannot hold a candle to Western offensive power - and countries with high birthrates also have lower-tech economies. That's the key point Sobran overlooks here. Our military in Desert Storm suffered about as many casualties as if they had been back home getting in car wrecks or falling off ladders.

Try to get ahold of most recent American Spectator. Long article showing birthrates dropping more quickly in areas in third world than anywhere.

We simply are not going to nuke a billion people. We SHOULD kill all the terrorists we can, but we are not going to incinerate a billion men, women, and children.True, but I have this suspicion that the Moslem hordes might not be satisfied until they force us to kill several tens of millions.
