Once again, this is "hypothetical".

It is a typical tactic of druggies and presumably others to use "abandoned" runways to throw off observation. Sometime fake structures are built right on the runway, these can be rolled off for covert landings.

I am not saying this is the case here, but it is in the druggie and terrorist playbook.

Good point about the airfields camoflage. During WW-II Germans painted sheep etc on the runways and the ammo bunkers had metal framework over them that allowed em to look like haystacks when stuffed with hay of course... etc etc......this evidence still exists or at least did in 78 at Aviano Air Base Italy.

Albeit I don't think this little feild is that elaborate/complex your drug runner theory is a valid consideration.
