I couldn't make it, but here's a report on it for those interested.

Thanks, Dan. Dr. Lott has no competition on the issue as far as I'm concerned.

Bump!
Hmm... seems to me that Brian Mackie was running away from having to answer any difficult questions. Goes to show how the 'facts' that the gun-banners present can't stand the light of scrutiny.

Bump to an excellent report. It appears that Lott, as expected, had solid evidence while his opponent could only appeal to the irrational emotional folks.

Bookmarked......EXCELLENT synopsis.
Thanks. You may have saved a few lives today with your words and efforts in documenting how " scarce" their facts about guns are, yet how great their "fear" of safely armed citizens is.

Great report, very thorough and detailed. You must be a h*lluva note-taker.
FWIW, why is it that liberals, when they have no cerebral argument, automatically shift into "scare 'em and bring 'em to tears" mode?

I know Hutchins Hall well. Thanks for reviving the memories. It sounds like the debate was not very well joined. These things where the issue is complex and competing statistics are at play, really take a knowledgable moderator to work well, and a block of time of a couple of hours.

Mr. Mackie said that he is in charge of minority hiring of police in Washtenaw County and that this does not lead to increase in crime. Heterogeniety in demographics is a killer. What works in a highly bourgeois university town may not work elsewhere. Just a thought.

Hey dan, do you guys have a trifold that lists the refutations of the bad data that Lott lists (and you wrote above).
I could really use that so I could commit it to memory.Maybe the SAF guy across town from me has it.

Mr. Mackie started by talking about firearms injuries to children. He said that the death of even one child is important to him, and that it saddens him when he hears of a 3-year-old being shot by a gun that was carelessly left unguarded in a home.Barf. The gun grabbers always have to rely on emotions.
