I couldn't make it, but here's a report on it for those interested.

BUMP

Thanks, Dan. Dr. Lott has no competition on the issue as far as I'm concerned.

Bump!
Hmm... seems to me that Brian Mackie was running away from having to answer any difficult questions. Goes to show how the 'facts' that the gun-banners present can't stand the light of scrutiny.

Bump to an excellent report. It appears that Lott, as expected, had solid evidence while his opponent could only appeal to the irrational emotional folks.

Bookmarked......EXCELLENT synopsis.
Thanks. You may have saved a few lives today with your words and efforts in documenting how " scarce" their facts about guns are, yet how great their "fear" of safely armed citizens is.

Keep in mind that Brian Mackie is from the people's republic of Washtenaw County. The sheriff at least is pro-gun amazingly.
Washtenaw county is the home of Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti, two of the most liberal cities in the state. Ypsi went 73% for Gore, and Ann Arbor(known as the Berkely of the Midwest) 70%. It is represented by Lynn Rivers in Congress, who is to the left of anyone who doesn't have the last name Conyors. That's not mentioning Alma Wheeler Smith, Chris Kolb, and Mackie himself.

Great report, very thorough and detailed. You must be a h*lluva note-taker.
FWIW, why is it that liberals, when they have no cerebral argument, automatically shift into "scare 'em and bring 'em to tears" mode?

David Felbeck is a very valuable board member of MCRGO. He's also a retired professor, so he definatly knows how to take notes.

I know Hutchins Hall well. Thanks for reviving the memories. It sounds like the debate was not very well joined. These things where the issue is complex and competing statistics are at play, really take a knowledgable moderator to work well, and a block of time of a couple of hours.

Mr. Mackie said that he is in charge of minority hiring of police in Washtenaw County and that this does not lead to increase in crime. Heterogeniety in demographics is a killer. What works in a highly bourgeois university town may not work elsewhere. Just a thought.

LOL. Chances are that the blacks in Ann Arbor make 6 digits a year.
Although Ypsi has become a fairly rough town.

Thanks for the report.
You might find it of interest that the county I live in, Snohomish WA, just today reported a 26% increase in CCW permit applications in the last month.

Hey dan, do you guys have a trifold that lists the refutations of the bad data that Lott lists (and you wrote above).
I could really use that so I could commit it to memory.Maybe the SAF guy across town from me has it.
To: Dan from Michigan
Sorry I missed it.
Brian Mackie some years ago prosecuted a Chelsea church bus driver on trumped up sex abuse charges. The jury laughed the case out of court because the charges contradicted fact and logic. After the poor bus driver was set free Mackie told the presstitutes that the jury had failed to do its job and had set free a dangerous sex criminal. What a slime he is.

Chances are that the blacks in Ann Arbor make 6 digits a year. Some do. But a lot of blacks live in public housing. The wealthy blacks send their kids to private schools so they are not corrupted by the young gangstas from the drug infested public housing.
