Decorated Vietnam Vet Arrested
Freerepublic | Nov 01

This is a follow up on a response to which I emailed the City of San Diego's Mayor's office(which info on thread was in error) to which it was forwarded to the City of Solana Beach. Here is a response to this thread from Freerepublic from Maria Escobedo, City of Solana Beach. (her email is:mescobedo@cosb.org)

TO: INTERESTED PERSONS

FROM: CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE

DATE: NOVEMBER 7, 2001

RE: ROBERT THOMAS NORTHCUTT

The recent press release entitled "Decorated Vietnam Vet Arrested Guarding War Memorial and American Flag in San Diego" contains several inaccuracies. The following information addresses some of the inaccuracies:

* The dog's aggressive manner prevents anyone, particularly children from approaching it. The City has received numerous complaints regarding the dog's aggressive behavior and has forwarded those complaints to San Diego County Animal Control.

* In May 2001, the dog bit someone who was walking along the public sidewalk.

* The dog is being held by San Diego County Animal Control. They will decide whether the dog can be returned to Mr. Northcutt.

* Mr. Northcutt frequented the memorial prior to the 9-11 terrorist attacks. There was no observable change in Mr. Northcutt's patterns after September 11.

* Mr. Northcutt was not responsible for raising and lowering the flag at the memorial. City personnel are responsible for the flag.

* Damage has occurred to public property as a result of Mr. Northcutt residing at various locations in the City.

* City Code Enforcement personnel were not present nor did they order that Mr. Northcutt be issued a citation.

* Mr. Northcutt was asked to leave the memorial site by Sheriff's deputies. Mr. Northcutt refused to leave and insisted on being issued a citation. Sheriff's deputies attempted to persuade Mr. Northcutt to leave the site, however, he continued to insist on receiving a citation.

* Mr. Northcutt was NOT arrested for trespassing on City property. In the process of issuing a citation Sheriff's deputies discovered that there were outstanding warrants on Mr. Northcutt. Mr. Northcutt was arrested based on the outstanding warrants.

* The City is primarily interested in ensuring that the dog does not harm anyone and that public property is not destroyed.

* The City is respectful of all citizens and has made special recognition of Veterans and active military personnel, including its participation in an "Adopt a Ship" program with the USS Fitzgerald DDG-62 and annual Memorial Day and Veterans Day services hosted jointly by the City and its local VFW post. Following the 9-11 attacks, Solana Beach was also one of the first cities in San Diego County to install patriotic banners along a major highway through the City.

This was the thread link to the article, but it seems it can't be located on Freerepublic.com... Anybody knows the correct link?Link to Vietnam Vet arrested

I am assuming that Mr Northcutt has some problems but also, would like to see someone from the San Diego area contact those attorneys who represented Mr Northcutt, and validate this information coming from the City Mayor's office of Solana Beach. Locate the source link to the orginal thread and ping those who responded... I am not sure who to believe but this became now, a political issue to this city. No thanks to freepers who responded with emails of sorts to them.... Good job but lets get the truth and do make sure the dog is safe and will be returned to Mr. Northcutt.

Seems as if the city of Solana Beach is having trouble keeping its stories together. One person tells one story, another, a different story, and on and on. If you go back to the original 4 threads, and read between the gentle discussions of some grinding axes, you will see the various versions Solana Beach has come up with. So far, the only thing their various versions have in common is the name of our suffering brother vet.

Poor pols are trying to find one version that will get the nation, particularly veterans and FReepers off their backs. Pardon me as I wipe away the crocodile tears I shed for them, and for other politicians who wave the flag when it suits them, and then do as they please the rest of the time.

If I were anywhere near Solana Beach on Veteran's Day, I would love to march with a FReeping contingent down their main street -- the one they decorated, of course.

The way I see it is Mr. Northcutt is a homeless vet and the liberals who reside in SB are intimidated by his presence.

Sooner or later everyone falls on hard times and there is no crime in that nor in being homeless.

This is one more reason why I despise liberals.

I hope you have read Stolen Valor, by B.J. Burkett, every crazy on the street claims to be a Vietbam Vet., Burkett has exposed over 800 phonies who want sympathy for their bad behavior by claiming to be VN Vets with PTSD. Burkett files Freedom Of Information Acts on them to obtain their service records under their name and very very many times it turns out they were nowhere near Vietnam, ever. Be careful.

Thank you buddy and God Bless all FReepers and allied forces.

May God protect all soldiers who have been placed in harms way.

To my buddies John Anderson of 101st Airborne - Tet. Barry Spencer who is a homeless veteran in San Diego and who's father passed away and who's mother has not heard from him.

To those draft dodgers who fled to Canada while others stood stood in your place, there were 48,000 Canadians who volunteered and served in Vietnam.

C.C.Smith - GDSM - Canadian Grenadier Guards.

Honi soit qui mal y pense

FReepers.

Barry Spencer, M.P., is a homeless Vietnam Vet. My last contact with him was in early 1990 when he was living in Balboa Park.

He is from Neshamite, PA. His father passed away and his mother has never heard from him. He donated plasma at the the Plasma Center on the corner of Balboa Ave and Broadway.

If you are with the SDPD, please locate him and inform him of his father's status.
