Falwell and Robertson both behaved like insufferable self-righteous fat-fingered pharisees.
The Bible does not state anywhere, that God smashes airplanes loaded with innocent women and children into the side of the World Trade Center, to punish America for having too many homosexuals, pagans, and atheists.

I don't think Thomas Jefferson would be apologizing. He once said, "Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God? "The day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus, by the Supreme Being as his Father, in the womb of a virgin will be classified with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter.

America is great because America is good. When America ceases to be good, America will cease to be great. -Alexis de Toqueville.

Gee, isnt' that special.
Can you tell me you think you are to gather that God turned 5,000 innocent mothers, fathers, daughters and sons into a substance that resembles what you scrape off the bottom of your barbeque grill?
All of us who read the bible and try make our lives right with God would like to know your secret as to how you are so blessed by Him that you are able to interpret his will in such a way.
Yuck!

The sins and wickedness of people in America are causing God to remove His hand of protection from our nation. My first question is, why did He wait so long? Was there some one sin committed by someone somewhere that put the country over the threshold of Divine blessing?
My second quesiton is, if Christians pray for God's blessing in America, they must believe God does not answer their prayers, if what is happening to America is God's action. But if God does not answer their prayers, why do the pray?
If God does answer the prayers of Christians for God's blessing on America, then 9/11 must be God's answer to those prayers and an example of God's blessing.

The tie to current events is circumstantial, not absolute, but pretty persuasive. If we are concerned about a rash of fires, even of unproved origin, it makes eminent sense to quit playing with matches. Also God does chasten, and perhaps even certain Ones will learn this while it is still opportune. Minerva, Jupiter, etc. my foot.

Before somebody goes and bursts a blood vessel here, I have wondered about that my own self. What DID Jerry Falwell say that hasn't been being discussed right here on Free Republic BEFORE 9/11? If you are honest with yourself, sudden fear, (and we all felt it,) can bring to the surface exactly what your innermost fear truly is. If you are a devout person, you have broached the outtermost ripples of these kinds of thoughts long previous to the horror that befell this country in September. While true that none of us would ever WISH for such a thing, it did happen. And we are left wondering how, searching for reason where there is none.
Jerry Falwell is a human being. I don't think he intentionally meant to offend anyone. What HE said wasn't half by half nearly as bad as the Beserkley *peace* declaration.

God often chastens by way of intending our good. If we are getting numb to what evil is, and we then find ourselves with an unmistakable evil thrust in our faces, are we going to curse the light in which this darkness casts a shadow?

Since Roe v. Wade, over 40 million Americans have lost their lives to the abortionist's trade...
That's the WTC times 7000. Chilling thought, eh?
Of course that isn't counting the probable 100's of millions of deaths worldwide, all helped along by American attitudes and practice in affirming a 'woman's right to choose'.

And we are left wondering how, searching for reason where there is none. And so of course the natural reponse is to blame these horrible acts on God?
To say that God is punishing innocent children for the wickedness of others?
That's a mighty peculiar vision of God you have.

What did Jerry Falwell say that was so awful? Nothing. He just offended the "wrong" people, i.e. the media.
To: overseer5
has too much of the church gotten "in bed" with these kinds of things?

Jerry Falwell is a human being. I don't think he intentionally meant to offend anyone. If he held to the truth I don't think he'd CARE who was offended.

Yeah, you know each one of them has a Harry Potter book stashed somewhere.....

Maybe some day you will get a bigger picture of what the bible says, not just pick a little piece from it you don't like, twist it out of context, and then scream and wail about your straw man.
