CBS executives werent pleased by Fox Sports move to update the Emmy Awards during Game 7 of the World Series Sunday night.
CBS insiders Monday morning were calling Fox Sports move to give continuos updates of Emmy winners across the bottom of the World Series a 'cheap-shot.'
CBS executives felt betrayed by Fox because the Emmys are normally a 'non-compete time and a show that celebrates the best in the industry on every network.'
Game 7, which aired head-to-head against the Emmys on the East Coast, beat up on the Emmys in the overnight ratings, with a 26.9 rating/38 share in households vs. a 12.6/17.
A Fox Broadcasting executive said, '(CBS TV President) Les Moonves got the biggest pass anyone has ever received on a show like this, he got to determine the date of the show, he could pick any day and he chose Nov. 4, knowing full-well that there could be a Game 7 and he actually got cocky and went on the record saying that only happens about 20% of the time.'
On the West Coast, the twice-postponed Emmys which were pushed back until the first Sunday of the November sweeps, only aired against the World Series for about an hour.
Fox Sports executives said Monday, 'We felt we were providing a service to our viewers, but we certainly didnt intend to diminish the West Coast viewers enjoyment of the Emmys.'
Neither Fox Broadcasting nor CBS executives would comment on the record.

Emmys weren't in the same league.

Whine whine whine. Frankly I was annoyed by the updates....I could care less who won or lost. Nothing worth knowing about. IMHO.

CBS Can blame the bonehead in charge who chose to have the Emmy's on the same night as a World Series Game 7. Besides, does anyone care to watch the TV industry pat themselves on the back for a couple hours? Not me.

Bwahahaha!!!!
Updated score: FOX 1, CBS (and Hollyweird) 0.

FOX is as clever as a fox! Good on them.

Yea exactly. I didn't like the Updates either. I found them to be distracting and a waste of space.

I thought it was hilarious that Fox was updating the Emmy's using the system they normally use for updating scores. I wanted to comment on that last night, but FR was down during the time period for doing so.
Why the heck shouldn't have Fox done had those updates? The Emmy winners were news, and thus newsworthy and thus news that was in the public domain.
CBS could have countered with having updates of the World Series score during its broadcast.

When I saw them flashing the Emmy winners on the screen I had a bad case of Who Cares.

Ellen DeGeneres did such a good job CBS gave her a special "likety-split" award.

Who cares about the Emmy's? Just a bunch of phonies trying to make themselves feel important.

Yup... a great way to break chops.

When I saw FOX post that "West Wing" won something or other (best show, or who cares?)..I contrasted that in my mind with the REAL President we all saw throw a perfect strike to a screaming, supportive crown.
Martin Sheen, eat your drug-addicted heart out.

The audience for the emmy's is basically liberals isn't it? Maybe they were all cowering from CBS knowing that Dan Rather and other on air persoalities may have contracted Anthrax. If the news Media had not inflamed the topic so much maybe their viewers would not be afraid of contracting anthrax from watching the emmy's.
Damn Yankees

Screw CBS! If they wanted to provide game updates, who was stopping them?

A bunch of millionaires giving themselves awards during this time of national crisis is a low low priority.
Baseball is a passtime that signifies stability while Elene Degenerate and Paula Poundstone do not.

I wonder if those television/media types are going to realize that Americans aren't interested?
They're morons and most of America is tired of them.

I couldn't give a rats a** about the Emmys. All in all from the terrible announcers to the fake ads projected behind the batters, Fox did their best to screw up what was a great series.

Agreed. But I think the interesting thing here is not so much what FOX did, which was very clever, but that CBS is
whining about it in public. Very bad form.
But then....FOX rules!

Besides, does anyone care to watch the TV industry pat themselves on the back for a couple hours? Not me. Having Ellen Degenerate as the MC made sure that I would not tune in whenever it was aired.
