Dear Laura,

It is so nice to have an intelligent, gracious, and poignant woman as first lady. Every time I see my White House, my Air Force One, or any of the other wonderful perks we as a Nation afford our elected First Family, I take a sigh of relief and thank God that it is being utilized by a couple who truly love their country and know how fortunate they are to have been given such a gift. I also rest assured that you both understand the gravity of the task that has been given you in leaving our country in better shape than it was before you got there. I know these things because I know that you and George love this country as much as I do and that you care that the generations that follow ours will live in the freedom and prosperity we have enjoyed. Great politicians are made and this country has enough of them. Great statesmen, on the other hand, are born. They are honorable, dignified, intelligent and gracious and I believe you and George are a great example of the latter. On your birthday, Laura, I salute you. Thank you for making me proud to be an American again.
