OUR OWN MR. B. NEEDS OUR HELP TO RUN FOR CALIF. STATE ASSEMBLY!!
e-mail | John W. Brantuk, Sr.

Posted on 11/04/2001 10:54:48 AM PST by Mercuria

To My Dear Friends and Supporters,

I am writing you today regarding two very serious items:

1. To announce that I am running for the California State Assembly, District 56;

2. To let you know that I urgently need your help in this endeavor today.

Please read on . . .

Due to the combination of redistricting and term limits, there is no incumbent running for reelection in the 56th Assembly District. This resulting open seat is a wonderful opportunity for us to really make a difference in our State Government. As of this writing, there are only 2 major party candidates running for this seat; a Liberal Democrat, and me, a dedicated Conservative Constitutional Republican.

There is one pressing problem, however. We must raise the funds to pay the exorbitant filing fees (approximately $1000) required by the State of California in order to qualify for the ballot by the beginning of the coming week, as well as many other miscellaneous expenses. As I write this, we are far short of the goal.

Please note that no other Conservative Republican has stepped up to run for this open seat, and if we do not raise the funds necessary to secure my place on the ballot, we may well find ourselves in the untenable position of having a liberal Democrat running virtually unopposed for this seat. We must not allow that to happen!

Many of you have encouraged me to run for this office; I ask you now to please help make that possible by sending the largest contribution you possibly can today.

Please make your checks out to:

"Brantuk for Assembly" or "John W. Brantuk" (whichever is easier)

and mail them today, or as soon as possible to:

Brantuk for Assembly
P.O. Box 171
Whittier, CA 90608

If you'd like to make a donation immediately from your checking account or your credit card, you can also click on the following link and make it now using PayPal:

Contribute via PayPal

One last note: Please be aware that once elected it is likely that I will serve only one term in the Assembly. My actions in office will not be colored by thoughts of reelection, but only by doing what is right and what truly upholds the Constitution.

My purpose in office will not be to make friends; my purpose will be to make a positive difference, no matter who's feathers I ruffle.

Thank you for your support. I value it more that I can express.

Best regards,

John W. Brantuk, Sr.
Candidate for Assembly, 56th District
Current Chairman, 58th Assembly District Republican Central Committee
Member, California Republican Party
Phone: (562) 698-2870
Fax: (562) 698-2810

P.S. Whether or not you are in a position to make a donation today, please forward this request on to others who may be able to help. We must raise the necessary funds quickly.

Time is of the essence.

Again, I sincerely thank you.

Merc - If I was out west, I'd accept.:)

John - Check is in the mail.

I was a little skeptical at first, since I was a little worried it would be a 'token' unwinnable race like what happens in Detroit. From what I've heard so far, it sounds similar to Kildee's current 9th district in Michigan.

Tough, but theoretically winnable, and the way Davis is f'ing up the state with the energy crisis, there is one last gasp for the GOP.

ALL - In a primary in my county, an unknown candidate with similar credintials to John, ran against the incumbent. The district was favorable to him, but this is a primary race against a two-term incumbent. The incumbent(who I liked and voted for, since I didn't personally know the challenger, and I'm a friend of the family) was pro-abortion in a pro-life district. She was pro-gun as well, but not to the extendt of the challenger. The challenger lost by 700 votes. He spent $30,000.

It will take that amount to run a bare bones race. With LA media, I'm predicting it will take about double that. The one race we got killed that I mentioned in FRmail - we had under $20,000.

To all in LA, the best way outside of donations and volunteering to help him out - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR. And the issue I'd focus on right now...ENERGY.

Know your incumbent.

Sally Havice

56th Assembly District

The 56th Assembly District includes the cities of ARTESIA, BELLFLOWER, CERRITOS, DOWNEY, HAWAIIAN GARDENS, LAKEWOOD & LONG BEACH.

Voters first elected Sally Havice to the California Assembly in 1996. In 1998, Sally won re-election by nearly 10,000 votes. In her final race to the State Assembly, Sally Havice won over 61% of the vote in November 2000. Prior to her election to the legislature, Havice had been elected in 1989 and re-elected in 1993 to serve on the Board of Education for the ABC Unified School District.

Sally grew up in the Cerritos/Norwalk area, attended local schools and graduated from EXCELSIOR HIGH. After business college, she got a job in the private sector and later as secretary at NORWALK CITY HALL. While working, Sally enrolled at CERRITOS COLLEGE, where she earned two ASSOCIATE OF ARTS degrees, one in Social Studies and the other in Spanish. She then went on to CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, LONG BEACH, where she graduated cum laude with a BACHELORS OF ARTS degree in English and a MASTERS OF ARTS degree in Linguistics.

Sally taught English composition and literature at CERRITOS COLLEGE for 23 years. During this time at the College, she also served as the Interim Assistant Dean of Liberal Arts and as the Community Liaison for Cultural Performing Arts. Her work on campus included service as an officer on the Cerritos College Faculty Association and as a member of the Faculty Senate.

Sally has three sons: EDWARD, a physician; RAUL, a police officer; and JOSEPH, a computer scientist. She has nine grandchildren.

While in the Assembly, Sally has focused on school safety and quality of life issues.

On education, Sally authored Assembly Bill 1756, which was signed into law by Governor Wilson, establishing a statewide grant program to pay for community policing and mentoring on school campuses. Sally has authored legislation ranging from child privacy enhancements to expanded access to after-school programs.

On quality of life issues, Sally authored AB 1355, which created the largest urban nature conservancy in California. This conservancy - and funding items she carried in three state budgets - will bring more parks and green space to the region.

During the 1999-2000 legislative session, Sally Havice was recognized by the media as the fifth most effective state Assemblymember, in terms of securing adoption of her legislative package.

Thanks Dan!

Due to their gerrymandering last month I am no longer in the 56th Assembly District, but have had to put up with Has-lice for a number of years. I will do anything in my power to help defeat her, and Mr.B. is our man! Glad I could help convince you to contribute.

This year she outlawed guns concealed as pagers, even though concealled carry is outlawed in Commiefornia without a CCW.

Actually, you can give up to $1000 ($2000 per married couple) per year. It's just that you have to report your occupation and other personal information if you give more than $99.00
