Major EBook Publisher Endorses FReeper Jeff Head's Novel (Thread II)
Dragon's Fury - Breath of Fire ^ | November 2, 2001 | Christopher Durkin

My good friend and Free Republic regular Jeff Head spoke with me on the phone this afternoon with the great news that POCKETPCPRESS, a major publisher of electronic books, has expressed strong interest in Jeff's recently completed work of fiction:

Breath of Fire

Which is a tale of the coming third world war. Mr. Doug Clapp of PocketPCpress wrote in his endorsement on Jeff's website:

"My company, PocketPCpress, gets to see a ton of novel submissions. Most are truly terrible...which is sad. We wish it weren't so.

We recently had the good fortune to read Dragon's Fury-Breath of Fire by Jeff Head and -- for the first time in a long, long while -- we were absolutely knocked out.

Don't be mislead by the fact that -- for now -- this is a self-published book offered only on the author's website. I'm sure this won't be the case for long. This is an amazingly accomplished, professional, techno-thriller that will make you turn page after page after page -- and enjoy every minute of it.

I could go on about plotting and characterization and all that, but I won't. This is simply a hellava great read and "right on" about what's happening in the world today. Tom Clancy now has some serious, serious competition."

Doug Clapp

PocketPCpress

Jeff went on to mention that Mr. Clapp has also put him in contact with a New York literary agent who has requested expedited delivery of a complete hard copy manuscript in anticipation of possible print publication. For those of you who may not have seen the initial announcement, excerpts from Jeff's book Breath of Fire can be found here.

This is a most noteworthy and laudable achievement and a source of pride for all of us here. It is also even further evidence that Free Republic is the beacon of American liberty which both attracts and stimulates the brightest minds to be found on the net or anywhere. Congratulations to you, Jeff !

Thanks Chris.

Most of those were built over ten years ago when I was an director at Structural Dynamics Reearch Corporation. IN the evenings, after the kids were in bed, building those models was a way to "wind down" since I had no mountains to get to.

We have carefully boxed them up and carted them with us now to Montana and then here to Idaho.

I have a lot more that are waiting for a time when I have the time ... or just decide to put the effort into it.

Lots of painstaking and meticulous work to do it right and very theraputic.

Hope your nephews enjoy the pics.

Got word from the printer that the proof is complete and being sent over night to me. I hope to get it, review it and approve it tomorrow before I take off. I'll then have the 1st edition with me as I travel. If it looks good, I should have the first batch of books here by late next week, when I then start boxing and shipping!

Take care!

So GOOD to see you out here Joanie.

I hope, trust and pray that all is well with you and yours during these troubling times.

As I told Chris, I just got word that the 1st proof copy of the printed and bound trade paperback book came off the press late last night. They are overnighting it to me to review. On the approcal, the 1st printing will go to their press and I should have them by the end of next week so I can ship to those who have advanced purchased the book.

It's exciting.

I intend to continue in this vein until such time as a worthwhile and capable publisher comes along to take the publication to a mass production level. otherwise, I'll just keep plugging, doing the best I can myself.

I am signing a contract with PocketPCPress for publication rights to the MSReader version of the book. I'll continue the Adobe version myself for the time being.

Will talk to you more later. Jared and I will be leaving tomorrow after I get the proof reviewed and (hopefully) approved. We'll be in South Bend Saturday and Sunday and then back to Idaho!

Have not heard of the author or the book.

What's the brief synopsis? 2nd amendment issues or constitutional issues bring on a 2nd revolution?

Every issue you name it is in this book, it predicts a coming Yugoslav-style Civil War that will shatter America into new, ethnically-based nations.

A three way race war between Black, White and Hispanic, with enclaves of one race surrounded i.e. the Yugoslavian conflict transplanted onto American soil.

I believe the potential for the strife and conflict is there and that there are those who try and instigate it.

I also believe, if the horrid event ever came to pass (and I am praying and working with all energy of soul to avod it), that the outcome would end up being a return to constituional republican principles, albeit after horrific cost. People who believe America would simply splinter into several nations underestimate the numbers and commitment of those of us who will preserve the union under the constituional banner intended by the founders.

Anyhow, my first printing of Dragon's Fury - Breath of Fire is coming in next week. Hurry and get an order in because they are already almost all sold. I will be ordering a second batch (and a 3rd and 4th as necessary until a mass production publisher picks it up) week after next.

Regards.

I read somewhere that the TOP selling e-book only sold about 5,000 copies. There just doesn't seem to be much yet in e-publishing. However, if you write an e-book, there is always a chance that a normal PRINT company will publish your book.

Well, in about two-three weeks I have sold quite a few Ebooks from my own site ... so I have to believe that Amazon and Barnes and Nobels do a lot better than that.

That being said, there is no doubt that getting a mass printing is the ticket. I am selling printed trade paperbacks now on my site (click on the order page) and have had quite a few ordered as well, which will be filled late next week.

This EBook publisher has gotten me into contact with two or three agents to Publishing houses who are reviewing the manuscript right now. Perhaps it will get that opportunity.

Thanks for the comments.

The phone is ON, brother!

Will do a little scouting for a spot via the phone or 'net today. I'm certain that there are numerous spots at the I-25/I-80 intersection.

If you're in or around Greeley we'll make it Cheyenne. If you're over around Brush or Ft. Morgan, we could even meet in Kimball or Sidney, NE.

Jared and I hope to get going around 1 or 2 PM, so we'll hit Laramie and Cheyenne pretty late ... depending on conditions, it may even be tomorrow AM.

I'll call on the cell.

Cheyenne's the spot. It's about 35 minutes up the road from here, so give me a call when you hit Laramie and I'll get there about the same time you fellers do.

I'm working nights right now, so I'll probably be leaving from the warehouse to meet you. Time of day isn't going to be a problem, and my supervisor already knows that I'll be leaving a little early.

You might want to give me a ring when you leave so we can test the comms. You have my cell number, right?

I saw your comments on the Clancy thread and thought I'd goive you a ping.

BTW, I agree with those comments. I have read all of his books, but his interviews and his appearances have been big disappointments to me in terms of his philopsophy, etc. Just doesn't line up with his writing from my perspective.

Anyhow ... hope you get a chance to read this one and that it's an enjoyable and thought provoking read for you.

Oh, by the way, reagarding "us" FReepers ... don't kid yourself ... it is "we". Every person counts and is a part of the effort to retain and restore our constitutional republic.

FRegards.
