Question: Why Did Every Senate Republican Vote "Yes" on The Aviation Bill?
Free Republic ^

I don't really understand why the Republicans voted "yes" to create 22,000 more federal employees, wholly unaccountable to the free enterprise system if they screw up. Having a private firm do it, like El Al, makes SO much more sense. Please don't give me answers that I already assume: "They're spineless jerks, etc." There has to be more than that...Jesse Helms always votes his conscience. I think Frist does, too. We have a lot of good conservatives there. What gives, Freepers??

I'm afraid the reality is that the Democrats will ensure that these Federal jobs will be filled by welfare to work people. Already the FAA has hired 3,000 of these not so energetic (to be polite about it) people, who they can NEVER get rid of, believe me. Want to sleep at your desk and get a cash award for contributing to the "model work environment"? Join the FAA. Thanks Jane Garvey, for destroying what used to be the best agency anywhere!

Bottom line.
If you don't like the "rules" at airports or on commercial airlines.
Don't use them.

Technically because the Feds are allowed to regulate interstate trade this actually does fall under that. I am tossed on good or bad but as others have said in this threadwhy not at least have all the security -air marshalls, airport guards, security personnel on the same page. Yes the idea that their union will probably end up with democratic officials makes me sick.

Funny, I don't remember voting on the issue of the Feds taking over airline security. Your same argument could be used to justify Washington's takeover of the airlines too. You need rest.

Perhaps you have forgotten, the airports have always been operating under Washington's rules. Why do you have such confidence in them since the Sep. 11 attack occured on their watch?

Let me pi$$ you off real good. I heard on TV today that the existing Security employees are exempt from the 5 to 10 year background check.

Do you feel more secure now?

Confidence?
What are you "talking" about (sheese, you read quite a bit into a reply don't you)?
When you enter an airport security area, you voluntarily surrender your right to self defence. It's been that way for a long time and it's only worse now.

Here are the facts of life...

Private enterprise at it worst performs many times better than government at it's best...

It's hard for statist sheeple to come to grips with that...

I think some Republicans are making too big a deal

The Feds gave us the INS, the INS gave a country full of 'funtamentalist Muslims' kooks.

The Feds gave us the Civil Aviation Autority(?), the CAA prevent pilots from carrying guns. No guns in the cockpit gave us 4 kamikazi airliners.

The Feds gave us Politically Correct Rules, the rules were the crew should accomodate and Islam (submit) to highjackers .

Need I go on? Yes, its a big deal! The Feds keep making things worst with all the grandingstanding at airports.

We are more negligent in dealing with internal 'terrorists and hate spewing mullahs and their congregations' than any middle east country including Iraq.

This country is not on the road to confidence given the partisan politics that has taken the country to ruin. Especially during the last 8 years and now with more of the same. Very big deal my friend.

How were the security personnel involed in the 4 kamikazi attacks?

Airport security has met the callenge over recent years, they are not the primary problem. The Feds, their rules and their employees have given us this mess.

Normally I agree with you, however, this time, I guess you want the same sort of service protecting our airlines security as protects our borders from illegal immegrants - the fed's.

Sorry, I can't agree. However, I did hear one thing, my congressman said that the current system, our security companies are European, and not American owned, so they hae the same incentive to give us good security as Smith and Wesson had to protect our second amendment rights. Thus we will have our CIA and FBI working with European companies.

It would be preferable to me to make sure, that these companies are American, as a minimum.

The security and ground personell are the ones responsible for the fact that box cutters got on the planes. 90% of them are foreigners. We don't know their backgrounds. Should these people be in security positions? NO!

The rules say nail clippers, box cutters and 4 swarmey, male Saudi accents are legal.

90% of them are foreigners.

Sounds high but nervertheless they are the ones that have doing a good job. Rather have them checking than federal employees the caliber of Daschle , Gebhart or ( bomb away)McCain. Hell they think that Condit is a great guy.

We don't know their backgrounds.

We do know their background, but are prevented from exempting some job applicants because of the 'rules' applied by the liberal feds. Do you you know that you can't exempt a person with aids from working in a reataurant kitchen!

Should these people be in security positions? NO!

YES, they have a good record , great for years and in no way involved with what just happened. Could they be better? Like everything else the answer probably is yes.

The Democrates like to argue this 'scape coat' to death so as not to have deal with 'real' problems.
