Darlene Fitzgerald-Catalan has written a book describing the incredible events leading up to her voluntary resignation in 1999. Then, she worried about out-of-control drug trafficking, with pressurized rail cars as the vehicle. Today, Fitzgerald-Catalan is glad she brought her concerns to the public in her book, "U.S. Customs – Badge of Dishonor," because she and her former U.S. federal agent associates understand the real potential for disaster.

Fitzgerald-Catalan stated, "When a federal agency tasked with the protection of U.S. citizens' interests is too incompetent or too corrupted to do the job, something needs to be done."

Voluntary resignation of competent and ethical workers has occured in every bureaucracy. Decent people have only so much energy to fight hopeless battles.

Incompetence and insolence, if not corruption, prevail in INS, America's public schools, Union hierarchies, to name a few bureaucracies. Sadly, I guess the FBI and Customs have not been immune from this syndrome. The 'American way of life' can only exist if people agree to act ethically. There will never be enough inspectors, investigators, security details, etc to enforce healthy (for the common good) behavior, if the populace does not live in a world where such behavior is respected as a given.

INS, Customs, FBI, the whole DOJ have contributed so much to the failure of our system of CIVILIZATION that I really fear for the future.

Armed National Guard troops on street corners and prosperity are not compatible.

If only the pressholes had 1/10th the integrity of Mr. Aldrich when he sounded his first warnings. We would not be so vulnerable. At least we have been awaken and it is not too late--though there is a h*ll of a lot of catching up to do...

as far as the Haz-MAT with the most I am sure something like methyl-isocyanate is transported by tank car. Why one could easily have a Texas-City and Bhopal disaster combined in one event.

Thanks for the ping, John. Bless the fearless whistle blowers. With so much riding on these possible illegal operations, their jobs and lives could be on the line.

When President Bush said we should all be on high alert, remember the whiny female reporterette that asked 'for what?'. Listen and learn, lady. This is just one more activity. Frankly, I had never thought of this one and I'm grateful, once again, for Gary Aldrich.

Completely inspecting and tracking import/exports (via train, truck, boat or plane) in a competent manner would severely dent commerce. Government knows on which side its bread is buttered.

That looks like an 'extended hug' to me. Be careful Lady. Watch out for your reputation. I call Fall Guy and let him know what's going on.

I personally believe that GWB based upon his statements and John Ashcroft may have a clue but it has not gotten down to the middle managers who do the day to day work who still subscribe to the politically correct idealogy. I honestly am beginning to think it will take about 1,000,000 corpses to get the message accross and even then some of these drones will still not get it.

On a brighter note two of the senior FBI managers have announced their retirement as of the end of November. The retirements were unexpected.

Read "The Plague" by Albert Camus.

We are playing out the theme on a macro scale. ("Commerce Uber Alles" and official denial of reality until the contagion is too far along to treat.)

We are not playing for tiddly winks, or next quarter's earnings, but for survival. The stakes are different.

Sadly, the 2X4 upside the head on 9-11 was not enough to stir the dolts out of their lethargy. They think they have already seen the "worst case scenario", and not just the opening gambit.

Everytime I hear them optimistically saying that anthrax has proved to be a feeble weapon, I cringe. They had better pray that the bad guys keep sending grams, and not kilos.

I hope the 2 senior Fibbies were sacked because they could not adjust to the new reality.
