[history]
October 31, 2001 -- The latest nationwide terror alert was prompted by phone calls intercepted in Afghanistan in which suspected al Qaeda members conversed in code about a "big event," sources told The Post. The U.S. military intercepted a "handful" of satellite calls as late as last weekend, and the callers all used the same coded phrases, according to sources in the Bush administration.

Mayor Giuliani said the city is "already on the highest alert that it can be on," but beginning tomorrow, nearly 500 armed National Guard troops will watch city bridges, train stations and other sites.Glad to hear they finally have guns; before, only the ones at the airports were armed. (shaking head...)

Glad to know wiretaps - though too long to approve - are working. . .
Wish however, media would not report such; our enemies can assume as much; but why confirm for them 'lines' ARE working. . .

If these communications can be intercepted, can they be spoofed?

They probably had to give the press something because the media folks are so d@#n stupid they don't get the concept of a being 'alert,' and were constantly harping on the alert and 'what it means.' Unfortunately the country has lived so long in 'Blissword, Land of Perpetual Passivity and Apathy,' that people think it is natural not to have to pay attention to their surroundings or be responsible for themselves.

Spoofed? I want to know if they can be targeted. Feed the coordinates of the source into the computer and drop about 904285904590184 tons of explosives in their lap.

Chances are these "wiretaps" were NSA ops and have nothing at all to do with the new Police-State Law here in the states.
The interception of communications overseas has been an ongoing preactice for decades.
All our friends and enemies know it's happening and are like wise doing it to us.
Any association with the new unconstitutional secret "snooping" is purely propoganda

Well, the FBI said it was possible the messages are just designed to set off false alarms and continue to cause the gov to 'cry wolf' until people slack off... at which point, boom- they do it all over again.

Triple raises a valid argument. Can the information be spoofed? A little bit of misinformation can go a long way.

FYI why the threat was considered valid. No, why the SecDef gets POed. Damn leakers (or, it's a planted story).

"...to preserve presidential succession."These are the most frightening words I have heard in a long time. Time to pray, America!

Feed the coordinates of the source into the computer and drop about 904285904590184 tons of explosivesIt won't help. The networks and news organizations tell us the Tally Ban army soldiers are 10 feet tall and made of titanium.
From all the willful, traitorous leaking of the press, and from all the refusals to be patriotic, I am becoming convinced that the media is actively on the side of Al Queda.

How very true. That's enlightenment. Did you ever read Plato's "Allegory of the Cave"? Somehow you went outside citizen.
