They probably had to give the press something because the media folks are so d@#n stupid they don't get the concept of a being 'alert,' and were constantly harping on the alert and 'what it means.' Unfortunately the country has lived so long in 'Blissword, Land of Perpetual Passivity and Apathy,' that people think it is natural not to have to pay attention to their surroundings or be responsible for themselves.

I agree. But regardless, these new powers will be ineffective against terrorists in a couple years. They will learn to work around them. And then the power will only be good for abuse. We need a Sunset Clock to keep a sharp eye on the sunset of these supposedly temporary powers.
