Crowd Goes Nuts Over President Bush At Yankee Stadium
Fox ^

Posted on 10/30/2001 4:27:15 PM PST by hawaiian

I hope everyone just got a chance to see President Bush just now at the World Series. The whole crowd was chanting "USA" and giving him a standing ovation. He threw a perfect strike, and he was absolutely magical.

Why didn't she give that choice seat to a fireman or police officer and watch it from her cushy home. Dumb question.

"What's a "Bald Eagle" flying the field?"

The bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus), our national bird, is the only eagle unique to North America. The bald eagle's scientific name signifies a sea (halo) eagle (aeetos) with a white (leukos) head. At one time, the word "bald" meant "white," not hairless. The bald eagle is found over most of North America, from Alaska and Canada to northern Mexico. There are an estimated 50,000 bald eagles in the United States, with 80 percent of them found in Alaska.

Challenger? Is this the same eagle that "took a bite out of crime" when he took a chunk out of X42's hand at the White House last year?

Good question! Does anybody else here know if it's the same eagle?

Did you see our SSG in the dugout? Standing right there. I wondered if he'd follow Bush out, figured he wouldn't and he didn't. I started shouting right then "There's that secret service guy I pray for!" and my husband looked at me like I'd lost my mind.

Then when Bush threw that great pitch I jumped up again and jumped around with the jedis. Hubby just looked resigned to a night of hysterics.

:-)

Okay everyone, let's keep adding to the list

Rosie's Dinner At The Ballpark
1 container of popcorn
1 box of candy
1 large Coke!

(no fair adding bogus stuff the the official list, you must start a wish list for other items....)

To all: re #88. I took extra meds for the first pitch and can't type. I peppered my post with the word "is" even where it didn't fit. I needed to be medicated.

Except the ramparts we watched section. I don't get that. What are ramparts and why were we watchin' em? ***

Hey, Duh, I know you are joshing me. However, for those victims of the public school system (i.e. commie indoctrination camp 101) I shall relate the following.

Ahem, students, the Star Spangled Banner was written by Francis Scott Key during the War of 1812. Key had been briefly imprisoned upon a British Man O'War in Chesapeake Bay, while trying to negotiate a friend's release.

As he watched the bombardment, he was amazed that the Stars and Stripes still flew (Paul Harvey has reported that the men of the garrison, realizing the import of the flying flag to the Americans, volunteered to hold Old Glory aloft after the flagpole was decimated - as each man died, another would crawl forward to take his place).

The "ramparts" thus are the walls of Fort McHenry, still standing in Baltimore, MD.

"And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air, gave proof through the night, that our flag was still there."

The crowd loved him despite Peter Jennings close tonight. Jennings closed the evening news with this (paraphrase): "Remember that President Bush said he'd root for anyone but the Yankees. So if the fans boo him, we'll know that things have returned to normal". Clever try, Peter. Now beat it.

"Oar the ramparts, we watched." Ramparts.....A small "castile like" wall they peeked over while fighting. It shielded them.

I cannot believe I missed this. My husband insisted on taking our son to the Movies! On a School Night! At 8:00 I went to the lobby of the theater looking for a T.V.. I even went to the Pizza Place next door to see if they had one so I could watch.

I can't believe I missed it. Gosh, I hope I can find a repeat show of the game somewhere.... sigh...

Hey, you're doing fine -- you had the great line about no bags being allowed in the stadium (I just quoted it in another thread).

Probably Mt. Weather,, When I lived in Berryville, Va,, Mt. Weather was refered to as "The Mountain",, I'd ask my friends where their parents worked and when they would say "The Mountain" we knew it was the military complex that the President would go if it was nuke time,, the parents would never discuss their jobs to anyone,, they just worked at "The Mountain",, kind of cool,
