Houston is only a few hours north of the Mexican border. My father lived there until only about six weeks ago (he's now in a residential care facility in California. Maybe 1 1/2 to 2 hours north of L.A.
Houston has Bush Intercontinental Airport, plus the Ship Channel, and lots of industry (I'm no Houston expert, but I believe it's the third or fourth most populous city in the U.S.)

Houston might be a good bet. I doubt they would want to carry the stuff any farther then they had to.

"(I'm no Houston expert, but I believe it's the third or fourth most populous city in the U.S.)" Fourth. I spent 20 years there before moving here. I keep thinking about the USS Cole. Two attempts on the WTC, two attempts on the USS Cole. The USS Cole is in Pascagoula, Mississippi, about 20 miles from me. See how our minds work, lol.

Yup, and daddy Bush lives here, too. I've always figure a nuke would someday go off in the Huston Ship channel. Too bad cause my house is water front on Galveston Bay. Oh well, but I think I am far enough away from the refineries and such, about five miles maybe more. I figure I've got about five seconds to get away from the glass and get into the center of the house.

Houston is a more logical target than Dallas-Fort Worth because of the industry.

Houston is only a few hours north of the Mexican border. Great, and as the Greatful Dead once sang... "Houston, too close to New Orleans..."; which is where I'm heading next week.
