A "dirty" bomb, at least while I was in the military, was described as a surface or subsurface nuclear detonation. The material thrown up, from the blast, is highly radio active and could carry for miles. Even a small nuke can contaminate a very large area.

I think that's a "Dirty Nuke," whereas this is just a conventional bomb with dirty material attached, or a "Dirty Bomb."
