[history]
Apparently thirsty for a headline as an election year looms, Connecticut state Rep. Michael P. Lawlor, D-East Haven, and Senate Majority Leader George C. Jepsen, D-Stamford, are following U.S. Rep. Rod Blagojevich, D-Ill., in an effort to invent an issue where none exists, by demonizing the .50-caliber rifle.
Blagojevich is running for governor of Illinois. Jepsen is running for governor of Connecticut. Can this only be a coincidence? Perhaps Lawlor, co-chairman of the legislative Judiciary Committee, just needs an issue to give him some camera time.

So long as demagogues can bamboozle the press into spreading hysteria against firearms - any firearms - they will continue to deflect public attention away from their own failure to defeat real crime and real criminals, much less real terrorism and genuine terrorists. This says it all - they need to start being true Americans and go after the real terrorists and criminals.

Why do we act surprised?
One would think that Freepers, at least, would realize that the dis-information put out by the main stream media, government hacks and special intrest groups is just that. DIS-INFORMATION

50 cal, 45 cal, 9mm what's the difference? Pretty soon you'll only be able to have a 22 handgun and only by permission from the .gov.

The only people worried about these guns are Democrats. I wonder why?

.50 caliber rifles, THEY ARE SO MUCH FUN!!! Have you shot one. I look every month when I go to the gun show and have read about shooting them but so far I have found other ways to spend my money.

With the antigun cause now no longer sellable to most of the liberals who once embraced it before it cost them Algore's hopes of election (plus Congress) - and even the antigun Washington ComPost openly saying so - the antigun lobby is desperate for any version of the issue to get "marketability" for itself with politicians again.
Scandals of antigun politicians, activists, and lawyers

Here's my Barrett, (and my Colt AR-15, Glock 19 and Winchester 12 gauge) most fun toy I've ever bought. I get more looks and comments at the range than you can imagine, especially after the first shot scares the fluids and solids out of even long-time shooters.

The Demonrats worry about guns because they truly believe that when they sieze power we would use these guns against them by shooting 50 caliber holes in their armored cars and office bunkers.
Why should we disabuse them of their fears?
All power to the 50!

Worrying about criminals using .50 BMG is like worrying about drag racers using Sherman tanks.

Darn. I thought this was going to be about Henry Waxman's nostrils.

I did my part to frustrate these ani.
(My Serbu BFG-50 arrived last week.)
Find an outdoor range around Alamance that'll let us shoot .50BMG and I might just drive up and pay you a visit.

I've been thinking of getting a '50. Any recommendations as to a decent one, without spending through the nose?
To: MonroeDNA
I got a Serbu BFG-50.

$1975 base price makes it the best bang for the buck, so to speak.
There are Barretts, Grizzlys and who knows what else as well, but they cost considerably more.

Went to a range and got to shoot one, and of course when I was in the military, but the one shot 50 cal's really are fun to shoot. But EXPENSIVE!! Whoo, cost me 20 for 10 shots...

High capacity, drive-by-shooting, has no legitimate sporting purpose, if will save one child, the sky is falling, preferred weapon of gangs, I like cheese, all your .50s are belong to us, bump.
I can't believe the Hartford Courant actually published a pro 2nd column. This makes it only the second non-liberal article published by this oldest of U.S. publications... well, since forever.
