Just reported on Imus in the Morning. A man was arrested at an airport (I didn't catch which one, maybe Pittsburg) with a box cutter hidden in his lap top computer.

The man had an expired student visa.

My daughter attends Sonoma State in CA and tells me all foreign student visas and documentation is being checked, and the university is cooperating with the FBI and/or other investigators.

good point about testing security...time for the INS to release a report of all those whose visas have expired...time for winter cleaning so we won't have so much to clean in the spring. Semper Fi, Mike

Personally I think the FBI should begin by going into every college and checking "student visas". If you don't have it your out on the next jet back to where you came from. This includes professors also.

I'm guessing that his intent was not to hijack the plane, but to test the security measures to help find the best methods for the next attacks.

Remember how the hijackers took several flights trying different methods of getting into the cockpit?

Agreed. That would hit them in a target rich zone. We have been patsies about student and professor visas for decades. I was a "landed immigrant" in Canada. I had to show my status all the time. I expected to do it. After all, I was little more than a guest in Canada.

Absolutely. Acutally, we should herd as many professors as possible on "sabbatical" in military camps so their idealism will be a little more tempered.

There was a thread on Free Republic on Saturday, from a Freeper who had gone to an anti-war protest. I wish I could remember who posted it, maybe somebody else did.

She was creeped out because somebody came over to her and warned her about something happening on the 29th. She informed the police, but her warning was dismissed.

That warning just doesn't make any sense all. The Taliban claim Osama was not responible for the September 11 attacks and want proof. If that's true, how can they make the claim that more plains will fall. Sometimes I wonder if the Taliban can be trusted. (sarcasm)

Dumb plan . . . they're checking laptops especially thoroughly, or at least they're supposed to.

I went through security at Laguardia about ten days after the attack. Laptop computers were set aside and not put through the scanners, and I saw a couple go past the inspectors without their taking a look. On the other hand, some passengers were patted down and searched thoroughly, I think because they traveling on foreign passports. So, maybe we're lucky that this guy was profiled and his laptop was searched.
